Let’s face it, crafting is just better with friends! This 3-night crafting retreat is about MORE than just the crafting though! It’s about meeting some of your online crafty friends face to face (and me of course!), getting motivated and inspired in ways that you’ve never felt before, filling up your cup, and stepping out of your comfort zone. And of course, there will be cute crafts too! We’ll have Coffee and Crafting + Crafternoon + Night Owl crafting!
The 2nd annual CRAFTaway with Manda Panda Projects (last year the same event was titled CRAFTcation) will be held right here in Amanda’s hometown of San Diego, a huge destination spot. The event will have a “girls trip” vibe rather than a “craft conference” vibe, because there will be a vacation element to it in addition to the crafting. After the 3-night retreat, you will have the option to extend your stay and hang out with Amanda and explore San Diego for a day or two (all costs and lodging related to extending the stay will be each person’s individual responsibility).
The VIBE…
Arrive on Tuesday night, intros and mingle around the fire pit with s’mores, private pool, jacuzzi, and outdoor bar day, Projects + PJs Party, game room, napkin and/or Fave things exchange, SEVERAL crafts (coffee and crafting! + Night Owl Crafting + Crafternoons!), Lots of photo ops, Party Bus Thrifting and DT’Ing, Mexican Dinner night out, free time where you choose to go down towards the beach for an optional tattoo, or stay home bake goodies and watch some Netflix or play a board game with your crafty sisters. Can you feel it?
Â
This crafty retreat is exactly what you need to fill your creative cup! You’re guaranteed to make lifelong friendships, some cute crafts, and most importantly…
MEMORIES
Â
Get to know your retreat friends as we all arrive in on Tuesday night, while roasting S'mores around the fire pit, chatting and laughing. We'll do an exchange this night too!
You can't come to San Diego without having some fun in the sun! Spend the day relaxing, chatting, and laughing with your crafty friends.
It wouldn't be a girls trip without a Pajama party! Get comfy in your PJ's while we make a cute project. We will either do Pizza or possibly have a chef come cook us Paella!
If there is one thing San Diego is known for, it's Mexican food! Experience a casual dinner out at delicious local family-owned Mexican restaurant.
We've all seen the meme about taking a Party Bus from Thrift Store to Dollar Tree to Thrift Store, right!? Well, for 4 hours, we're making that a reality! The perfect opportunity for a group photo as well!
Of course, at a crafting retreat you have to have the main event....Crafting! You'll learn to make no less than 3 cute projects to take home with you in your suitcase.
Check in: Anytime after 5pm PST. You are welcome to hang out downtown or grab a Margarita at a nearby Mexican restaurant until after 5. After that, you’ll be shown where you can put your bags and where you’ll sleep. There will be light eating/appetizers while everyone is getting to know each other and we’ll hang out around the patio and fire pit roasting s’mores. Amanda will provide recommendations for places to eat if anyone wants to venture out for a full meal/takeout. We’ll do a fun gift exchange to break the ice.
After you wake up, help yourself to a continental breakfast and settle in for some Coffee + Crafting. After the craft, you will have some downtime before we all begin to “Make our sandwich” lunch and head out to the Pool and Hot Tub, and outdoor bar to relax and soak up some sun. After the pool, we will head back inside and you can do as you choose before we have our PJ’s + Pizza/Paella + Projects night where we’ll craft again. If you’re a night owl, have a Netflix Movie night or board game night!
After you wake up, help yourself to coffee/tea and a continental breakfast. Spend the morning chatting with a friend, playing pool in the game room, or grabbing an early lunch with a friend. We’ll come together at 11 for Crafternoon and make another cute craft. At 2:00pm the party bus will pick us up for 4 hours of Thrifting and DT’ing! After the Party bus, we’ll head to a local Mexican restaurant for some margaritas and tacos! After dinner you can head “home” to bake some cookies.
Wake up and help yourself to a continental breakfast before checking out at 9:15 am PST. If you have a later flight (or are extending your stay and cannot yet check in to your new place) there will be ladies with cars that you can leave your bags to meet up with later. Amanda will need an hour to wrap things up at the Air BnB and ensure its clean and will then be available for the extended stay plans for the next couple of days! Plans for this is TBD and will be communicated well in advance.
Crafting is SO much better with friends! Many of us have known each other for such a long time online, but never had the opportunity to meet in person. You’ll have a chance to hang out by the pool, share meals and coffee, craft together in your pajamas, laugh ’til your cheeks hurt, and Thrift Til you Drop together on our party bus.
You may feel hesitant to come alone, but I promise the second you step foot in the Air BnB you’ll feel like you’re with your lifelong friends you’ve known forever! Just ask the ladies who came last year!
The only thing better than crafting with friends, is crafting with friends in California! If you’ve never been to San Diego, or even if you have, its a #1 destination spot in the US and it’s absolutely worth the trip. October has beautiful weather and you get to stay in a gorgeous private retreat house right near Amandas home in El Cajon.
If you decide to extend your stay you’ll really get a chance to see all that San Diego offers and visit some tourist attractions like Seaworld and the beach!
Let’s not forget the thing that brought us all together in the first place….the crafts! I believe that crafting is like therapy. And crafting on the beach? The best therapy ever! You’ll learn to make at least 3 new cute crafts that you can bring home with you, that will make you remember this experience every time you look at them. No need to bring anything with you except for your creativity (and your glue gun!)
You’ll come home feeling inspired, rejuvenated and like you’ve just been living your best crafty life..because you have!
The total cost of the trip is $629 per person for a general ticket where you are sharing a queen/king bed, and $729 for a premium ticket where you will have your own mattress (this will be either a top queen bunk of a bunk bed OR a twin bed, there are 3 available). You will have the option to pay in full, or there will be a payment plan.
If you choose the payment plan, there will be a $229 non-refundable deposit ($329 for Premium) upon sign up, and then $100 per month for the next 4 months. The deposit will draft immediately, and you will receive a monthly invoice for the next 4 months. The first $100 invoice will be paid manually, and will allow permission for me to draft the remaining 3 payment of $100 each automatically.
Payment plan schedule:
Â
Â
The deposit and retreat tickets are 100% NON-REFUNDABLE. There is a TON of planning and preparation that goes into these events, and the money collected for each ticket will be almost immediately spent on retreat expenses.
You are responsible for selling your ticket if you cannot attend for ANY reason at all, including emergencies. With that being said, Amanda will do absolutely anything possible to help you to sell your ticket, including but not limited to promoting the available ticket on her social medias, sending an email to her email list, and sending Telegram notifications.Â
We truly do not want to see anyone lose their deposit/ticket cost, but refunds are strictly not an option.
There will be a survey questionnaire sent out in advance asking these type of questions. You will have available meal alternatives for things that you are allergic to so long as the information is provided on that survey in a timely manner.
The Air BnB is wheelchair accessible and there is a ground unit/bedroom, however, there is no wheelchair accessible shower.
Public transportation in San Diego is EXTREMELY efficient. The easiest way to get around is Uber or Lyft. I recommend downloading the app ahead of time, and setting up an account so that when you arrive in San Diego all you need to do is enter the address of the Air BnB and head to the Uber/Lyft pickup location of the airport. There is a designated spot that is clearly marked with signs, and you can also ask any airpot attendee where the Ride Share pick up location is.Â
If you do not feel comfortable with using a ride share service, the airport will have a line of taxis that you can jump into at any time.
Â
There are also options to take the bus/trolley, but learning that system, although cheaper, will be much more difficult. Please reach out to Amanda directly for info on the public transportation system if that is what you prefer.
On the way back to the airport at the end of the trip, I suggest finding someone with a similar flight time so that you can ride together and share the cost. Right in the Uber/Lyft app there is a “share cost” option, or you can always Venmo the other person your share. (This is an option when arriving as well, but you will need to coordinate with a friend before the trip to plan your arrival).
Check-in is anytime after 5 pm PST on Tuesday 10/07. I am working on figuring out if/where you can drop bags off if you arrive early, but you will not be able to get settled in until 5pm.Â
Check-out is Friday 10/10 at 9:15 am. Anyone that is not checked out by then will be asked to assist with clean up and tear down of the event.
Amanda will provide more info on early/late bag holding when the event date gets closer.
Â
I will make myself available until Monday to hang out in San Diego. After the event, the party will move down towards the beach. ALL meals/lodging/accommodations/entertainment etc. will all be each persons individual responsibility.Â
Once the registration ends, I will be communicating with all attendees about who is extending their stay, and you will have the option to get a hotel/suite with a roomate(s) to share the cost. I will be providing several hotel options down by the beach, with different price ranges.Â
The Air BnB has a very large driveway that can fit several cars, and there is plentiful street parking for free as well. No one will have a problem finding parking at all.
Hi! I’m Manda! Or Amanda, whatever you want to call me as long as it’s not Mandy.
I’m a Crafter, Twin Boy Mom, Business Owner and Sunflower, Leopard, and Rainbow Lover. I love to make cute things on a budget, which is how Manda Panda Projects started. It has since grown into the most amazing, supportive and encouraging community on the interwebs! We always joke on my lives about how we’d love to meet and craft in person, and get a party bus that goes from Thrift Store to Dollar Tree to Thrift Store…
My goal for you is to get you out of your crafty comfort zone, make crafty memories, and meet crafty friends on a once in a lifetime Cali CRAFTaway in San Diego.
I can’t wait to hug you in person!
You deserve to have these experiences and it’s ok to put you first sometimes!Â
I can guarantee you that you will leave this trip with your cup so full it will be spilling over into all the people that you love!Â
