Rusty Spring Bunny

Make an adorable SPRING bunny that’s not just for the spring season, but made with a rusty bedSPRING too! This cute and affordable DIY will have you hopping right into Easter and through Spring!

I am quite literally obsessed with bedspring crafts!

My crafty Facebook friend gave me a bunch to craft with, but you can also get them on Etsy.

This is just another way that you can make an adorable Bunny for spring and Easter.

How to Make a Rusty Spring Bunny

First things first, we have to rust the spring with our Rust Effect Paste. This stuff is pricey, but it is UH-MAZ-ING and so worth it! And, it’s easy to use. Of course you don’t HAVE to rust your spring if it’s not your style.

To use the paste, you first dab on a layer of the brown using a paint brush or foam brush.

Then dry that, and dab on a layer of the orange on top. You don’t want to cover it entirely in orange, just here and there and heavier in some areas, like natural rust would be.

For the bunny head, take a ball of poly-fil and put it in a square of muslin, then wrap the muslin around it and tie it off.

If you have a rubber band or hair tie, it’s much easier then trying to tie twine around it (unless you have an extra set of hands to help!). Once you have the rubber band around it, you can then tie it off with twine.

Cut off all the excess muslin.

For the bunny ears, freehand cut a large ear on a piece of burlap. Then use that ear as a template to cut the second ear so that they are the same size and shape.

I freehand drew the “inner ear” onto a piece of pretty floral fabric and then cut that out.

Use hot glue to attach it to the center of the burlap ears.

Then, pinch and glue the ears into a kind of accordion fold at the bottom, so that they are ready to glue to the top of the Bunnies head.

Then glue them to the top of the head.

For the nose, paint a small wood heart pink.

For the whiskers, wrap 4 pieces of wired twine around a paint brush to give them a curly look.

I used some cheap blush to give the bunny pink rosy cheeks using a finger dauber.

Then glue on your whiskers first with your nose on top of them.

Draw on super simple small black circle eyes with a Sharpie.

And then give the eyes some life and personality with a tiny white dot in the center. I used the end of a wooden skewer to get the dot small enough.

Time for the bow! Rip a bunch of coordinating fabric into about 1″ strips (as long as you like, the longer the fabric the longer the “tails” of the bow will be).

I used some pretty floral that I used for the ears, some tye-dye salmon color, coffee stained muslin, and a creme newspaper fabric. I use a Bowdabra to make my bows and I LOVE it, but you definitely don’t need one to make a bow.

Just start layering them in the Bowdabra, one strip after the other until its as big and full as you like, and then tie it off with twine.

I also made a smaller bow for the bunnies ears.

Glue the small bow to the top of the bunnies head by the base of the ears.

Then glue the bunnies head to the top of the spring, and the bigger bow where the spring meets the head on the left side.

I painted some wood dollar tree carrots for embellishments. I added a bit of Kilz Darl Wax to them to grunge them up.

And I glued them to the front of the spring using E6000.

For the finishing touches a glued in a bit of dried white flowers into the bows, and it was just what it needed!

Here she is allllllll done! I am in love with her!

Corrugated Cardboard Bunny with Fabric Bow

You’ll never look at cardboard the same after seeing this fun Corrugated Cardboard Bunny with a big beautiful messy fabric bow! The perfect addition to your DIY spring and Easter decor!

If you have been around for any length of time, you know that I like Big Bows and I cannot lie! Specifically FABRIC bows!

And for this project, the bow is the star of the show! I’m working with FabricWholesaleDirect.com to bring you the cutest little bunny, with the cutest fabric bow!

Given how much I love my bows, of course I said YES when FabricWholesaleDirect.com reached out to work with me.

Since it’s February, and it will be springtime before we know it, I was on the hunt for springy type fabric to make this bunny. They supplied me with the fabric of my choice, and I went with Yellow Gingham and Yellow Floral Meadow for my bow, and Victoria Stretch Lace in “Nude” for the bunnies inner ear.

In addition to this project, I even used the lace as a sort of table cover for my picture staging table. How GORG is this lace?

Now of course I chose a typical cotton type fabric for my bow, but I was THOROUGHLY impressed with both their linen and upholstery selections too. When I have the time to take on some bigger projects that require either of these, FactoryWholesaleDirect.com will definitely be my go to for those!

How to Make a Corrugated Cardboard Bunny

First things first, we have to “corrugate” our cardboard. Yes, you can buy it pre-corrugated, but I know a hack that makes it so easy you won’t have to waste your money. All you do is spray it with a nice good coat of water, rub it into the cardboard, and let it sit for about 2 minutes.

Then, you’ll be able to peel the top layer of the cardboard right off like you see in the picture below.

Now our cardboard is ready to be made into a bunny! If you’re thinking “but I can’t hand draw a bunny Amanda”, don’t worry, I got you gurlllllll.

I have a bunny template that I drew for you that you can save and print. Just press and hold the pic below if you’re on mobile (right click and “save image” if on computer), save to your device, and print it out.

Trace the chubby bunny template onto your corrugated cardboard.

Cut your corrugated cardboard bunny out.

For the inner ears, I made myself a template by drawing the inside portion and cutting that out. You can do this, or you can freehand draw the inner ears.

Then trace your “inner ear” template onto the Victoria Stretch Lace from FactoryDirectWholesale.com, and cut that out.

Next, we have to prep our surface. I decided to do mine “chippy”, but you could skip this and paint it plain white if you like.

To “chippy” it, rub the surface with candle wax. The more wax you rub on, the more it will “chip”.

Paint the entire wood surface all white, right over the top of the wax.

After it’s completely dry, “chip” it using a sanding sponge. You can also use a paint scraper for a heavier chipped look. I wanted mine to be more lightly distressed, so I stuck with the sanding sponge.

Next, I did a little bit of distressing to the bunny and the surface using my Kilz Dark Wax. This is another step you could skip if you wanted to, but I like to add it to give it some depth and dimension.

I like to use a finger dauber to rub the dark wax all around the edges of the cardboard bunny.

And all around the edges of the wood plaque surface.

Next, paint your wood eyeglasses a Teal color. This will coordinate with the fabric we are using in the bow.

Paint the small wood heart nose with a light pink color. I added a bit of the dark wax to the glasses and nose as well.

For the whiskers, take a paint brush and wrap the rustic floral wire around it to give it a curly look. You will need 6 of these total, about 4″ long.

Now for my FAVE part…the messy fabric bow! You can make a bow out of fabric, ribbon, or a combination of the two. But as soon as I got this fabric from FabricWholesaleDirect.com, I knew right away it was going to make the perfect bow for this little corrugated cardboard bunny!

I like to rip my fabric into strips, by cutting a small slit at the end and then tearing it straight down.

For this bow, I made my strips about a half inch wide.

I use three different patterns for this bow, a yellow gingham from FabricWholesaleDirect.com…….

A yellow “floral meadow” with purple and teal flowers from FactoryDirectWholesale.com….

And a teal with white polka dots from my stash.

I used my Bowdabra to make my messy fabric bow, but you totally don’t NEED a bow maker, you can make any type of bow you want.

To use the bowdabra, you just layer the strips of ribbon in a bow formation, one after the other (make sure to put a piece of twine in first). I started with my floral meadow.

Then added the yellow gingham.

Then the teal polka dot.

After doing several layers, you just tie your bow off with the twine.

Now let’s put this lil’ bunny together!

Attach your lace to the inner ears using Mod Podge.

Then hot glue the floral wire whiskers under the pink heart nose, and the wood eyeglasses on top.

I made one other small shoestring bow with the Floral Meadow fabric and hot glued that to the bottom of the bunnies ears for extra cuteness.

For some extra embellishments, paint a teal flower, a purple butterfly, and a yellow/purple HOP from Dollar Tree.

Next, hot glue the entire corrugated bunny to the wood plaque, just off to the right hand side.

Then glue the bow to the top left side, with a teal wood flower in the center.

Glue the butterfly to the top of the bunnies right ear.

Glue the yellow flower off to the right side of the glasses.

And last but not least, glue the HOP over to the left side of the bunny.

Here she is in all her glory!

Terra Cotta Pot Bunny

Take an ordinary terra cotta pot and turn it into a Bunny for adorable Spring and Easter decor! Hop to it, its almost Easter and Dollar Tree has all the supplies!

Bunnies Bunnies everywhere! That’s what happens when March comes around, and I’m totally here for it!

I’ve got a bazillion trillion of these Terra Cotta Pots in my stash, so of course I decided to turn one into another….BUNNY!

I went with the typical fun and vibrant spring and Easter colors for this one, but you could make her to suit your style by doing softer pastels, or even neutrals if thats more your speed.

Same bunny, different styles, still cute!

I used a 4″ Terra Cotta Pot, but you could also make mini tiered tray size bunnies with the 2″ pots, or a super big bunny for a front porch or something as well.

Supplies Needed to Make a Terra Cotta Pot Bunny

How to Make a Terra Cotta Pot Bunny for Easter or Spring

First I painted the entire terra cotta pot white.

Then I used a finger dauber to grunge it up with Kilz Dark Wax. I just rubbed it around the edges, top, and bottom, as well as a bit on the main part of the pot.

Don’t let the hand painted face intimidate you! I will break it down step by step:

Use a fine tip Sharpie to draw the outline of the oval eyes. It’s two ovals, leaning into each other with one overlapping the other.
Paint the eyes in black, and use a super thin paint brush to paint a small white line on the left side of each eye.
Paint three super thin whispy eyelashes on the bottom outer corners of each eye.
Make a small curved line above each eye for the eyebrows.

I used cheap Dollar Store blush to rub on the pink rosy cheeks.

To give the cheeks a little somethin’ somethin’, I took a thin paint brush and made “hashtags” on each cheek,

For the nose I used a super small wood heart, and painted it pink.

For the whiskers, I took some primitive rusty wire and wrapped it around a paint brush to give it the curly look.

Then I hot glued them to the front of the terra cotta pot, and glued the pink heart nose on top. I prefer my nose right side up, some people do the heart upside down, you can do it however you like!

For the ears, I shaped wired jute into the shape and then twisted the ends together at the bottom.

And then hot glued them to the top of the terra cotta pot.

Time for the bow! I ripped up a bunch of cute coordinating fabric into 1″ strips. Each strip was about 15″ long, but they can be longer or shorter.

I used my Bowdabra to make a messy fabric bow, but you totally don’t NEED a bow maker, you can make any type of bow you want.

Once I had the bow tied off I glued it on top of the terra cotta pot in front of the ears.

Of course she needed a little tag! I just ripped a small rectangle of Kraft paper, punched a hole in the top, and then grunged it up with the dark wax again.

I used my absolute FAVE acrylic stamps in the world to stamp on “bunny love”, and added a small pink paper flower to the tag.

I decided to tie the tag with a shoestring twine bow to the top of the bunnys ear. You could also put the tag on the bow.

I finished the bow off with a vintage button embellishment in the center.

Here she is all done in all her glory! Can we say cuteness overload!?

Dollar Tree Bunny Head Shelf Sitter

Take a Hop on the Wild Side with this cute and easy Leopard Print Bunny Head shelf sitter for spring and Easter. The best part of this cute craft? Its budget friendly since it’s made with almost all Dollar Tree craft supplies! So let’s hop to it and I’ll show you how to create this fun DIY decor!

You really can’t go wrong with a little bit of leopard print thrown into your spring and Easter decor. Am I right?

Don’t get me wrong, I love the colorful Easter crafts and decor, but I ALSO love a good neutral vibe as well. The Rustic Bunny family that I made last year is my FAVE.

But the only way I love my neutral is with…….you guessed it….LEOPARD!

Of course, if leopard ain’t yo thang, then you can totally do this any color or style you like.

So let me show you how I turned this Dollar Tree Bunny Head into a fun piece of DIY Spring and Easter decor with a little bit of a wild side.

How to Make a Dollar Tree Bunny Head Shelf Sitter

First step of this cute and easy DT Bunny Head is to stain the wood bunny head, Jenga Block, AND the rectangular wood base with Antique Wax. I used a scrap piece from Dollar Tree for the base, but you could just as easily use a paint stick or a couple of shims as the base.

Next, Trace the bunny head onto the leopard print scrapbook paper (or any paper!) and cut it out.

Then Mod Podge the paper to the bunny head and sand the edges to give it a finished look.

Cut a small black heart for the bunny nose, and glue it to the bunny face with some twine “whiskers”.

Glue a small lace simple bow to the bunnies head, and add a small sunflower embellishment to the center of the bow.

Now, hot glue the bunny head to the base, using a Jenga Block behind it as support like you see below.

Glue some excelsior all around the bunny head and the base so that it covers the Jenga block and gives the bunny a little “nest” to lay in.

Paint 2 small wood carrots, and then dirty them up using Antique Wax.

I glued 2 of them on the left side together, and then 1 on the right. The carrot on the right will be used as support for our little sign next.

Now to make the little sign! Cut a square of burlap and fray the edges. Then cut a square of thin cardboard or Kraft paper, and glue it to the burlap.

Use the mini alphabet stamps to stamp “Hop on the Wild Side” or whatever cute and clever saying you come up with.

Glue the sign to a wood skewer so that it makes a standing sign and then glue it to the base right in front of the carrot so that it helps it to stand up.

Oh.EM.GEE. I just love how this turned out!

If you don’t have the Dollar Tree Wood Eggs, in The CRafterparty, I always provide a printable paper template with anything that we make out of wood, so that you can cut it out of cardboard if you need to.

We embellished the bottom with Spanish moss and added some cute little wood Easter eggs that we speckled them with black paint.

The little chicken “wings” used to “hold” the chalkboard sign is simply made from cardboard.

The face looks all fancy and hand painted, but it’s really simple to do! Anyone can do it, I show you EXACTLY how to make cute faces like this in the group.

Of course the chicks needed feathers for extra cuteness.

We made the middle chickie holding a chalkboard sign that says “My Peeps”.

Take an adorable Happy Easter gift bag with 3 little Gnome Bunnies, and turn it into a cute piece of DIY Easter Decor using the reverse canvas method. After seeing this craft, you’ll never look at a Holiday gift bag the same way again!

Confession: It’s April 13th 2023, and if you’re reading this around this time then you are well aware that Easter is over.

O-V-E-R, over.

I started this blog post well before Easter and then next thing I knew Easter came and went and I never got this one done. (Add that to the 345 other craft tutorials that I need to get up on the blog)

Since I already had everything almost done, I decided to follow through because this one is just toooooo darn cute!

If you don’t have this exact gift bag, no fear. You can totally make this same adorable Gnome Bunny Gift Bag Reverse Canvas with any Easter (or any at all!) gift bag that you can find.

In fact, this doesn’t even have to be an Easter craft. You can whip up a St. Patty’s reverse canvas, a Patriotic one, or whatever your creative brain can think up.

8×10″ Stretch canvas

Pink, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange Bakers Twine
Twine
Mini Resin Bee embellishments
Antique wax
Mod Podge
Hot glue gun

How to Make a Gnome Bunny Gift Bag Reverse Canvas

First things first, you need to reverse your canvas. All that means is that you need to take the canvas off of the wood frame, by using an X-Acto knife to cut it off. I have a blog post with step by step instructions how to do this on a different Easter Gift Bag Reverse Canvas HERE, but I will copy them for you below as well!

Written Steps to make an Gnome Bunny Gift Bag Reverse Canvas

Remove the white canvas from the wooden frame.The easiest way to do this is to use an X-acto knife to slit around the back of the white canvas so you have one rectangular piece. You can rip the remainder off pretty easily, and don’t worry about removing the staples. You won’t see them since they’re on the back of the frame. Trim up the canvas so that it fits over the back of the frame, without hanging off the edge.
Stain the wooden frame dark brown.You can use either a dark brown paint mixed with water, or an antique wax/stain to rub over the wood using a baby wipe. Wipe down with a dry paper towel to remove the excess paint/stain.
Glue the gift bag to the white canvas rectangle.Cut out the front of the gift bag, and if it is larger than the white canvas, trim it accordingly so that it fits. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the white canvas, and secure the gift bag to it. Press down firmly and smooth out all the creases and wrinkles.
Attach the Canvas to the back of the wooden frame.Apply hot glue all around the back of the wooden frame (side with the staples), and glue the canvas + gift bag to the back.
Embellish your canvas with some mini bees. Randomly glue some mini resin bees around and on your canvas and gift bag.
Make a small bow and attach to the top of the frame. Wrap each color of your bakers twine in a bunch of circles around your finger, and then tie a piece of string in the middle making a figure 8. Glue all of the loops together to make a bow.
Hang up and Enjoy! Glue a piece of twine or string to the back top so that you can hang it up.

Dollar Tree Sunflower Easter Egg

Makeover a wooden Dollar Tree Easter Egg with an unlikely theme. Sunflowers! This unique and affordable DIY Easter decor is made with a rice paper printable, and the best part is it can be made on a budget!

I know I know, you’re probably thinking “But Amanda, Sunflowers don’t really go with EASTER“? And if you know me, then you know my answer is “Sunflowers go with EVERYTHING!”

And if you don’t know me, then Hi! My name is Amanda and I have OSD. Obsessive Sunflower Disorder.

So of course the Design I ended up using for this Dollar Tree Easter Egg was the Vintage Sunflower print called “The Victoria”.

Ever since I discovered printables from Cathy at Digital Deco Designs I have been literally obsessed. I’m telling ya, go check them out for yourself and I dare you to not get addicted!

I download and print them onto rice paper at home from my regular printer, but she offers print and ship as well for those that may not have a printer. Either way, once you start Mod Podging rice paper, you can’t stop!

I love this particular print sooooooo much that I’ve used it quite a few times. My fave project being the Thrift Store Globe that I upcycled into something fun and unique!

Supplies Needed to Make a Dollar Tree Sunflower Easter Egg

How to Make a Dollar Tree Easter Egg with Sunflower Printable

I made this Dollar Tree Sunflower Easter Egg on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.

To start off, paint the bottom half of the egg white, so that the rice paper design pops once it’s Mod Podged on. There’s no need to paint the top, because you won’t see the wood through the wall tile.

Next, measure and trace out the bottom half of your egg onto the printable, cut it out and Mod Podge it to the bottom half of the egg. At this point, the bottom half should be the sunflower printable and the top half is still plain wood.

Now do the same measuring and cutting for the top half with the Dollar Tree wall tile, but paint it all white before gluing it to the top half of the wood egg.

Once it’s all glued on, brush some antique wax over the raised parts of the tile, and all around the outer edges of the egg to grunge it up and give it an older distressed feel.

Glue a strip of frayed burlap across the center of the Dollar Tree Wood Egg, to cover the spot where the rice paper printable meets the wall tile.

Add 3 small sunflowers across the burlap to jazz it up.

Finish it up by arranging some greenery with one larger sunflower head front and center.

You can’t see it here, but I added a piece of twine across the back to hang it, and secured it with hot glue and reinforced it with popsicle sticks.

I’m so incredibly in love with how this Dollar Tree Sunflower Wooden Easter Egg turned out!

Spring Cardboard Carrots

Nothing says “Spring is in the Air” like a good ‘ole carrot craft! These Spring Carrots are an easy and affordable DIY decor project is made with a secret supply that you probably already have at home. Can you guess it?…….Cardboard!

I get it, craft supplies can be expensive. Trust me, I know. Which is exactly why I craft with cardboard All.The.Time. Hence these Spring Cardboard Carrots.

Pretty much anything that is made of wood, can be recreated a la cardboard. Same goes for all those Dollar Tree cutouts that are so hard to find since they sell out in like a hot second. Just find a free template online, print, cut, and trace!

For as cute as these Spring Carrots are, you would never know they are cardboard! Just like you’d never know this Easter HOP sign is cardboard too. Check it out, I’m telling you…Cardboard is KING!

Supplies Needed to make Spring Cardboard Carrots

12″ Wooden Shims
Cardboard long triangles
Twine
Faux leafy greenery
Raffia
Orange paint
White paint
Black and white bakers twine
Wood beads – I used 16 mm
Black and white polka dot ribbon (or buffalo check or whatever you like)
Vaseline
Chip brush
Glue Gun

How to Make Cardboard Carrots for your DIY Spring Decor

I made these precious Spring Cardboard Carrots on video, so you can WATCH the step by step tutorial HERE.

First things first we made our background using 12″ wooden shims. Just lay them side by side, alternating the thick ends with the thin ends, and glue a few craft sticks across the back to brace them together.

Stain the entire surface with antique wax, and then use Vaseline in random areas to create the “chippy” look. Paint the entire thing white and then dry to ALMOST done before using a paint scraper to “chip” the paint. The chippy process is better explained and detailed out in THIS post, or you can watch the replay to SEE me do it!

Cut some cardboard triangles and paint them orange first before wrapping them on twine just in case you can see it through the twine. Dry brush some orange on top of the twine for a rustic farmhouse feel.

Glue some raffia and greenery to the top of each carrot, and then finish them off with a couple of cute shoestring bows.

Paint some wood beads orange, and then brush some antique wax to dirty them up to make the wood bead hanger.
