Bring spooky charm to your home or Halloween party with this DIY Muslin Ghost Rag Garland! This budget-friendly Halloween craft is perfect for a festive traditional Halloween vibe to decorate your home.

I made this Halloween Muslin Ghost Rag Garland live on Facebook, and it was such a fun project to share with everyone! If you missed it, don’t worry you can still catch the replay over on YouTube linked below!

This DIY ghost garland is the perfect mix of spooky and cute, and it’s an easy way to use up fabric scraps or muslin you already have on hand.

If the traditional Orange and Black Halloween isn’t your vibe, you can totally switch up the colors of the rag ties, and even add embellishments like glitter or bows to give them more personality.

Oh and did I mention this one doesn’t require any sewing?! So it’s perfect for anyone who wants a quick Halloween décor DIY.

I don’t have a mantel, but if I DID that’s totally where I would hang this. But whether you hang it across your mantel, drape it over a mirror like me, or use it as a backdrop for your Halloween party, this ghost rag garland is sure to bring festive charm to your space.

• Large wood beads
• 18 mm wood beads
• Mini Hangtags

How to Make a Muslin Halloween Ghost Rag Garland

Definitely watch the replay to see how this is done, but I’ll give you a quick rundown below.

First things first, rip 16 strips of fabric, about 1 ” wide and 10-12″ long. I used 4 different patterns, and ripped 4 pieces of each.

For the ghosts, take a large circle of muslin and drape it over the top of the large wood bead. Then tie a piece of twine around it’s “neck”. Use a black Sharpie to draw on the eyes, and some pink cheap blush to give him some rosy cheeks.

I made three of these ghosts, and on the first one I added a small hangtag that says “THAT’S”…..

The second one I added a small hangtag that says “BOO”….

And the last one has a small hangtag that says “SHEET”!

Now to put this all together onto the twine, you have to follow a certain pattern. From left to right it will be 4 pieces of fabric –> Black wood bead –>> 1st Ghost –> Black wood bead –> 4 pieces of fabric –> Black wood bead –> 2nd Ghost –> Black wood bead –> 4 pieces of fabric –> Black wood bead –> 3rd Ghost –> Black wood bead –> 4 pieces of fabric.

To get these onto the garland, use a larks head knot to tie them around a long piece of twine.

Start by tying on the first 4 pieces of fabric, sliding it all the way down to the far left end of the twine, then add a black wood bead, and then use hot glue to glue the twine to the back of the 1st ghosts head (the one that says “THAT’S”). Then add another black wood bead, tie on 4 more pieces of fabric, and then the ghost that says “BOO”, and so on until you get all three ghosts on and all 4 groups of fabric.

Here it is all put together!

I love it draped over the top of my leopard print mirror, since I don’t have a mantel.

Absolutely in LOVE with how this Halloween Ghost Garland turned out! It looks so cute on my Fall-O-Ween Bookcase too!

This floating ghost in a jar is the perfect mix of spooky and adorable! A simple DIY that lights up your Halloween decor with just the right amount of creepy cute charm!

Halloween crafts are some of my absolute favorites, and this floating ghost in a jar is no exception. It’s cute, a little spooky, and so easy to make with just a handful of supplies you probably already have on hand.

This ghost is made to look like he’s floating in jar above a mini “graveyard” made from moss, a headstone and a pumpkin. The tea light is the perfect touch to give this a spooky, yet creepy cute vibe to keep out all Halloween season long!

I used Muslin and Creepy cloth to make my ghost, but cheesecloth would work even better. If I had some, that’s what I would have used.

If you have never used Rust Effect Paste, RUN to Amazon and get some! It’s THE best and easiest for giving a faux rust look to every material possible!

Gather all the ghosts and ghouls to make this easy, fun, and affordable muslin and not-so-creepy cloth ghost for your DIY Halloween decor this year! Simple, thrifty, and oh-so-BOO-tiful!

I love to craft for Halloween, but I love creepy CUTE, not creepy creepy. And this muslin ghost fits that description perfectly!

I like to give my muslin a grungy look by coffee staining a bunch at a time so that I have it ready to craft with.

I do it the “lazy” way by just mixing some water with instant coffee and then dunking the muslin in and rubbing some of the instant coffee grinds into the muslin to give it some darker spots.

There’s really no rhyme or reason to how I do it and you can’t mess it up!

After I coffee stain it I pop it into the oven at 275 degrees and bake it until dry. Now, you’re ready to make this not-so-creepy cloth ghost and endless other crafts with grungy muslin.

How to Make a Muslin and Creepy Cloth Ghost Sign

To make the background of this adorable ghost sign, you need a wood pallet and a piece of regular ‘ole tissue paper.

Crumple the tissue paper up into a ball and then open it back up so that it has a crinkled look like you see below.

Use a good amount of Mod Podge and decoupage the paper to the wood background, being careful not to smooth it out too much because you want the wrinkles and crinkles to give it the fun texture.

Use a gator sander or sanding block to sand off the excess tissue paper from the edges.

Paint the tissue paper surface all black.

Now for the ghost, mix together some Mod Podge and water in a bowl that you don’t mind ruining. I would say about a 2:1 ration of Mod Podge:Water but it’s not an exact science.

Rip off a piece of muslin and creepy cloth, and submerge it into the Mod Podge water mixture, making sure every bit of the fabric gets covered.

Take the fabric out and shape it into a ghost on your black tissue paper background, making sure the creepy cloth is on the top.

Make a miniature dried flower bouquet by taking some creme dried florals and tying a piece of twine around the stems.

Hot glue the dried flower bouquet into the ghosts “hand”, by tucking it behind a fold in the fabric.

Dry the fabric with a heat gun or let it sit overnight before continuing.

Cut two ovals out of black felt and glue them to the ghosts face.

Tie a rusty bell onto a twine shoestring bow, and glue it to the front of the flower bouquet.

Now for the fun part…the gold leaf starry night background!

Rub a light layer of Mod Podge all over the background, and using your finger, rub bits of the gold leaf all over the background. You can add as much or as little as you like.

Look how neat this looks! As if the night sky above the ghost is lit up with stars!

Here is how the ghost will look once he’s all dried. It may look like the fabric is soft, but it’s actually rock hard.

This Thrifted Wood Ghost was cute when I bought him, but once I made him over with some cutesy glasses he went from cute to BOO-tiful. DIY Halloween decor at it’s finest!

This is your reminder that if you see something cute-ish at the thrift store, but you don’t absolutely love it, then grab it anyway! Because you can make it over to be something even more amazing.

I mean, this ghost really was cute when I first got him. But I knew right away that he wasn’t gonna stay as is. In fact, HE became a SHE! No surgery required LOL!

Major GLOW UP here!

I thought about him being almost like a wood craft kit…but cheaper! ($1.95)

I got this gorgeous Halloween fabric at JoAnns Fabrics, and it made for the absolute perfect bows for this project.

I am not huge fan of the color orange, but this fabric is quickly changing my mind this Halloween season.

Since I don’t normally love orange, I made a similar BOO Banner Ghost last year that was Rainbow theme. It kind of reminds me of this cutie since she was holding a Boo Banner as well. I guess you can say my own project inspired this one.

How to Makeover a cute Thrifted Wood Ghost

The ghost was already white, but since I wanted to paint over the current face to redo it, I painted another coat of white over the entire thing. Here is the back, before I did a second coat.

When I ripped the pumpkin and bowtie off, it pulled up some of the MDF, so I decided to turn it around and make the front be the back.

I like my crafts old and grungy so I used my Kilz Dark Wax and “antiqued” all around the edges of the wood ghost using a finger dauber.

For her face, I used a spouncer to make large round black eyes, and the end of a paint brush to put a dot of white inside.

I painted the wood eyeglasses black, and glued them to the ghosts face.

For extra cuteness, I made a simple “hair bow” with some pretty argyle fabric, a twine shoestring bow, and a small black button in the center.

For the BOO banner, I cut 1 perfect triangle out of cardstock, and then used that as a template to cut the 3 triangles out of burlap. I coated the back with Mod Podge to make them stiff and prevent them from fraying.

Next, I painted the one inch wood letters B-O-O orange, and glued them to the burlap pendants.

Then, I glued the burlap pendants to a long piece of twine and attached the banner from arm to arm by gluing the twine around the “arms” to the back.

To decorate the pumpkin, I first pulled it off of the ghost (I heated the glue up with my heat gun first, to loosen it up). Then I traced it onto a piece of black and white polka dot fabric, cut it out, and decoupaged it to the pumpkin using Mod Podge.

For the stem, I wrapped it in twine and secured with hot glue.

Of course I had to make a mini fabric bow for the pumpkin stem using my Bowdabra, but you could totally make a bow without that. I used a combination of fabric and ribbon, and glued a mini black button to the center as an embellishment.

To finish it off I glued a small resin pumpkin to the bottom left on the base of the ghost, because I just felt like it needed a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ there.

I think this lil’ ghosts name should be Paisley. Paisley got a MAJOR glow up from her original thrift store version!

How to Make a Dollar Tree Skull Witch Decor

The pack of Dollar Tree Pot Holders come in a pack of two, so I crafted with one of them and then gifted the other away.

First things first, make a 2-3 inch slit with an X-acto knife on the top back of the pot holder, and separate the back of the pot holder from the front. Then stuff it with as much polyfil as you can and then close up the slit with some hot glue.

Now, your pot holder is stuffed and we’re ready to decorate!

Next, hot glue the orange tulle trim all around the outer edge of the pot holder.

For the hanger I made a wood bead hanger with twine and black, white, and buffalo check wood beads.

Secure it to the back of the pot holder with hot glue, and then glue a couple strips of ribbon over the ends to reinforce it and make it look “pretty”.

Last, add a couple of mini black wood bats to the front, on top of the images of the bats for some 3D elements. I added two.

Here she is all said and done. This took me about 30 min to make and it came out oh so cute, don’t ya think?!

It fits perfectly on my doorknob for a cute little Halloween vibe.

This DIY Halloween Feather Wreath combines all of my favorite crafting supplies. We’ve got Dollar Tree Wreath form, Vintage Witches rice paper, black lace, and the most fun of all…feathers! A statement piece for sure!

This is not your average DIY Halloween Wreath. But then again, I’m not your average crafter.

I received a bunch of AMAZING Halloween trims in the mail from Simplicity Creative Group as a gift to craft with and I got to work creating with them right away! The trims, including this Feather Trim, can be found online or in stores at JoAnns Fabrics.

I also used one of my other favorite crafting things…Digital Deco Designs!

If you are not familiar with Digital Deco Designs you are MISSING out with a capital M! She makes gorgeous rice paper printables that you can either download and print at home, or you can have them printed and shipped to you.

For this project I chose “Real Vintage Witches“, and I have a printer, so I downloaded and printed it onto rice paper at home.

How to Make a Vintage Witches Halloween Feather Wreath

I had an idea for the feathers and this Dollar Tree Styrofoam wreath like you see below, and I was onto something! Now to put the rest together I’ll show you what I did.

First, I got the wreath attachment ready by tracing the Wood Plaque to the front of the Vintage Witches rice paper and cutting it out.

Before Mod Podging the rice paper to the wood, I decided to paint the edges of the plaque all black.

Then I Mod Podged the rice paper print to the plaque, and smoothed out any wrinkles with my brayer.

I sanded off all of the excess rice paper with my handy little gator sander.

Next, I painted the entire green styrofoam wreath form all black.

I found this lace table runner at my Dollar Tree, and I thought it would make the perfect background for the wreath, but the question was, how do I attach it. Hot glue to the rescue!

I first cut out a large square, and then glued it to the back of the wood plaque with the witches print.

Then I flipped it over, and glued the black wreath form on top, with the print in the center.

I secured the lace with hot glue all around.

And then trimmed off the excess lace that hung over the edge.

Now for the fun part….the feathers! I just hot glued the trim all around the styrofoam wreath like you see below. This part was actually super easy.

Now to embellish it, I added some spiders…..

A little mini broom stick anda foam black rose.

For a hanger I simply glued a black string in a loop to the back of the wreath.

And here she is! This Halloween Vintage Witches Feather Wreath is an absolute STATEMENT piece if I’ve ever seen one!

I know it’s a little “out there” and may not be for everyone, but I sure do love it. I am doing my kitchen dining area all rainbow with black and white Halloween this year, so I think I may put this in my kitchen!

How to Make a Scrap Wood Pumpkin

This one is so easy to make you don’t even need a tutorial, and that works out because I made it live on Facebook so I don’t have any “in progress” pics. But if you don’t want to watch the replay, I’ll walk you through how I made it.

First I stained the entire wood block with Antique Wax. You aren’t going to see the wood much, but on the parts that you can, I don’t want to see the raw wood color.

I then traced the sides and top of the block onto 4 different coordinating scrapbook papers, and then ripped them out using my irregular ruler. I wanted the paper to be torn looking to give the pumpkin a distressed look and so that the edges and corners of the block show.

I Mod Podged each piece of ripped paper to each of the 4 sides and top of the wood block.

Next, I glued a stick from a dried flower bouquet to the top of the pumpkin as a stem.

I then made a messy fabric and ribbon now with my Bowdabra, and then glued that to the top of the pumpkin along with a gold fall leaf and a burlap rosette.

I absolutely love love LOVE how this turned out. It looks so fabulous with all of the other neutral, gold, and leopard print crafts we’ve been making for my Fall-O-Ween bookcase.

Ya gotta love a good ole’ Dollar Tree DIY, and this is one for the books!

It’s creepy, it’s cute, it’s neutral, and it’s gold. OH, and there’s Leopard print too!

What’s not to love?

I became obsessed with the neutral, gold, and leopard print theme last year, and I think I will stick with it this year as well.

This Dollar Tree Skull Witch looked just perfect on my Fall-O-Ween bookcase, with all my other gold and leopard print fall decor.

This Fall-O-Ween Skull with Witch Hat uses ALMOST all Dollar Tree supplies, except for the Tulle and fabric, which is from Walmart. Budget crafting for the win.

How to Make a Dollar Tree Skull Witch Decor

I started off by taking all the tacky tinsel off of this Dollar Tree witch hat. It’s super easy to get off, just unravel it and throw it right into the trash because who wants to use that stuff!

Then I gave my Dollar Tree plastic skull a good two coats of white chalk paint.

Next I took a a paint brush and Antique Gold Rub n’ Buff, and lined the cracks in the skull with gold paint.

I also very gently rubbed some Rub n’ Buff over some of the bumps and grooves on the skull.

And of course I had to give him a gold tooth!

For his eyes, I covered the sockets with Mod Podge and then sprinkled copper gold glitter all inside, and then dumped off the excess glitter.

I painted the glass candlestick with a coat of white chalk paint first, and then a couple coats of metallic gold.

My fave part is the gold tulle “neck collar” around the top of the candlestick. I just took a 4″ wide strip of the tulle and kind of bunched it up, and glued it around the rim of the candlestick.

Then, hot glue the skull to the top of the candlestick.

For the witches hat, I cut several strips of coordinating fabric about 3″ wide and 10 inches long. Then wrapped it around the hat in a diagonal fashion and hot glued it in place.

I wrapped a leopard print strip around the base of the hat, and then stuck a feather inside.

I finished the hat off by gluing a rusty bell to the top.

And there ya have it! A creepy cute Dollar Tree Skull Witch in all his glory. Or all HER glory? I don’t know, I’m thinking its more of a HE witch, but would that be a warlock? And I digress….LOL!

I absolutely love love LOVE how this turned out. It will look so fabulous with all of the other neutral, gold, and leopard print crafts we’ve been making for my Fall-O-Ween bookcase.

Clothespins wreaths were sooooo popular for sooooo long, but they kind of faded out a few years back. Well, I am reviving it this year, but in a different way…..

With cardboard! So no need to even buy a wire wreath form to make this one.

You could make this with ANY napkin and any embellishments you want. It of course doesn’t have to be pink Halloween like mine, you could even make a Fall or Christmas clothespin wreath too.

Supplies Needed to Make a Spooky Halloween Clothespin Wreath

• 24 Clothespins
• Cardboard
• Dollar Tree ‘Spooky” ghost cutout
• Floral Skull Napkin
• Buffalo check ribbon
• Black bakers twine
• Tim Holtz Distressed Ink
• Paint: Black, White, Pink, Purple
• Mod Podge
• Hot glue gun

How to Make a Spooky Halloween Clothespin Napkin Wreath

First thing I did was trace two bowls onto a piece of cardboard. One just a bit bigger than the other, to make a donut shape. The donut is about 2 inches thick.

Next, I cut the donut shape out with a good box cutter.

Then, I painted the entire cardboard donut all black.

Now for the clothespins. I took my napkin and separated the plys to get it down to one ply.

I then used Mod Podge to decoupage the napkin to the top of the clothespins. I did a total of 18 decoupaged clothespins. The fastest way was to stick them all down to the napkin next to each other in a row, and then use scissors and cut them apart, rather them do them one at a time.

I used my gator sander to sand all the excess napkin from the clothespins.

I wanted to add a bit more color in and pull the purple from the napkins, so I painted 3 clothespins purple.

I also used 3 white clothespins, but I had them spray painted and left over from a previous project, so I didn’t have to paint them for this project.

For the Dollar Tree Spooky Ghost cutout, I painted the ghost white and the “Spooky” pink (color is Apple Barrel “Fruit Punch” mixed with “Pure pink”).

The white on the clothespins and the ghost was TOO white, so I distressed it a bit with my Tim Holtz Distressed Ink by rubbing it lightly on the edges.

Now for the hanger, I looped a piece of buffalo check ribbon around the top of the donut, and then glued the edges together.

I realized I wouldn’t be able to actually hang it this way, so I then added a small black bakers twine loop to the top, and that worked out great!

To make it all pretty I made a simple buffalo check bow and glued that to the top of the hanger.

Let’s put it all together! I started clipping the clothespins around the donut in the following pattern: 3 Decoupaged napkin, 1 white, 3 decoupaged napkin, 1 purple, and then repeat.

I put on the finishing touch by gluing the Spooky Ghost to the front and center of the clothespin wreath.

Here’s what it looks like from the back.

Here she is in all her glory! AHHH Oh em gee I am so in LOVE with this one! It looks so fab with my Dollar Tree BOO Ghost I made too.
