Make this easy St. Patrick’s Day craft for kids by turning an empty toilet paper roll into cute little Paper Tube Leprechauns!
.“Toilet Paper Tube Leprachaun“
The luck ‘o the Irish will be on your side with these Paper Tube Leprechauns! We are always saving empty containers, toilet paper tubes, coffee cans, etc. since there are so many ways to recycle them into something new.
Last weekend we actually got rained in (Yup, San Diego rains believe it or not) when we had plans to go to the zoo. It was the perfect opportunity to spend the day getting crafty instead, but leaving the house for supplies was simply not happening. Good thing I saved all those empties! We made this Egg Carton Rainbow Wreath and now we need a Leprechaun to go along with it.
My twins and I couldn’t decide between these Pine Cone Leprechauns or the Paper Tube Leprechauns, so we just made both! This easy craft is a great way for the kids to get into the St. Patrick’s day spirit.
I don’t know what it is about toilet paper rolls, but kids love to make things with them. I think its because they find it silly that they are using TOILET PAPER to craft with, but it works for me because there is so much you can make with them! This Kid-Friendly St. Patrick’s day craft is just another reason why you should save those rolls!
This one would also make a great Holiday craft for the classroom since the supplies are pretty basic. Are you ready to make some paper tube leprechauns? With these little guys around the house, we may have to make some Leprechaun Traps next!
Supplies Needed for Leprechaun Paper Tube Rolls
This post may contain affiliate links for you convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link I will earn a small commission but it won’t cost you a cent more!)
- Toilet Paper Tubes (2 tubes make 1 Leprechaun)
- Glue (I recommend either a low temperature glue gun or craft glue)
- Scissors
- Green Paint
- Black Glitter Paper
- Gold/Yellow Glitter Paper
- Googly Eyes
- Orange pom poms
- (Optional) Green Pipe Cleaner for Shamrock
There are a few different ways you could alter this if you don’t have all of the supplies. You could use green construction paper for the “body” instead of paint, and you could use regular black and yellow paper if you don’t have the glitter paper. I always seem to have this glitter paper on hand though because I use it for everything!
How to Make Leprechaun Paper Tube Rolls
Start by painting the toilet paper tubes all green. Let the paint dry completely while you do the next steps. Once it’s dry you’ll cut one of the tubes in half to make the hat.
Cut a strip of black glitter paper about an inch wide, and long enough to wrap around the tube. Cut a rectangle out of the gold paper to make the buckle. To get the hole in the center, rectangle in half, cut out a small square from the middle, and unfold.just fold the gold
Next, cut out a circle from the black glitter paper. Make sure your circle is just a bit wider than the opening of the tube to serve as the brim of the hat.
Now take the green toilet paper tube half and glue the black glitter circle to the bottom of the tube. Then wrap the black glitter paper strip around the tube and secure with glue, and glue the gold buckle in front. You’ve just made the hat!
Secure the hat to the top of the other full toilet paper tube with glue.
Glue on the googly eyes and the orange pom pom beard. If your feeling extra lucky, shape a green pipe cleaner into a shamrock to accessorize his hat!
Be easy on my Shamrock, it was last minute addition Maddox suggested. I’m sure you can do better!
These were so easy and cute to make! Perfect for a rainy weekend crafting or even for a classroom activity!
Make sure to pin this for later so you can put your empty toilet paper tubes to good use this St. Patty’s Day!
Until next time…
