Take an ordinary thrift store boring white crown picture frame, and transform it into the perfect piece for a sunflower and leopard print gallery wall with some paint, gold rub n’ buff, and scrapbook paper. This is one Thrift Store Crown Makeover that you are not going to want to miss!
Who doesn’t love a good Thrift Store Flip!? In fact, this one is a good Goodwill flip! LOL!
I have this onnnneeeee small spot on my Sunflower Gallery Wall that I haven’t been able to fill, because I’ve been waiting for the perfect piece to put there.
The second I saw this white crown frame at Goodwill for about $3.99, I knew it was the PERFECT piece! Except one small problem, I didn’t like that it was white.
So, I made it over into exactly what I wanted and I’m gonna show you just how I did it!

How to Makeover a Thrift Store Crown Frame
I made over this Crown Frame on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
The first step is to paint the entire crown frame with black chalk paint. I tried a few ways of protecting the glass, but ultimately rubbing it with vaseline worked best.
I tried painters tape as well, but it was tedious and took way too long to do for my impatient self. Plus, I was live on Facebook when I made this so I didn’t want to sit there all day taping off the glass, when it wasn’t even that effective! The vaseline worked just as good so if I got paint on the glass, it just wiped right off.
After a couple coats, take your Antique Gold Rub n Buff (or Gold Leaf if you like that color better) and rub it allll over the raised surfaces of the crown, bringing out all the detail.
I think using your finger works best to do this, especially for the smaller detail. You can try a paint brush too, and see what you like better and do whatever works best for you. There truly is no “right” or “wrong” way. Just know that the Rub n’ Buff does stain, so some people choose to wear gloves (I personally don’t bother #hotmessexpress).
Next, cut your Sunflower Rice Paper to fit the center heart part of the frame, and put it in just like it was a picture.
Do the same with the oval leopard print parts on the right and left of the center heart.
And that is literally all there is to it! A little time consuming, but easy to do nonetheless!
