Turn a Dollar Tree Fur Pom Pom Key Chain into an adorable little Easter Bunny Gnome in just 5 minutes. This is a super easy Easter craft for both the kids and the adults, and you can whip up a handful of these like it’s Gnomebunny’s business!
Where do I even start with how absolutely adorable these little Furballs are?!? I really don’t even know exactly what they are and I struggled with titling this post because of it. There is just no name that does their cuteness any justice. I mean “Easter Bunny Gnome” just seems boring for how cute these guys are.Â
After we made these Bunny Butt Pots a few weeks ago, we had several fur pom pom key chains leftover from Dollar Tree. Ya know the multicolored ones they sell and keep up by the front register?Â
Our local DT also had the donut shaped fur key chains that we used to make these Bunny Mini Door Hanger Wreaths. Who would have known there was much you can do with fur key chains?
I know a DT run may seem like an impossibility these days with all that is going on in our world, but if you do have to go out for essential supplies, I would definitely snag some. And obvi, you can get them on good ‘ol Amazon too. Â
As you may know, I’m all about the Creative on the Cheap life. I came across a pair of old bunny ears that were Dollar Tree Circa 2017, and lobbed off the headband to use for some sort of craft.
I was Just messin’ around, and I sat them atop the larger pom pom you see in the picture above, and thus the GnomeBunny was born!
I added some feet to the larger guy, but the little dudes I left feetless, they’re too cute just the way they are! It was slim pickins’ at DT for the larger Pom Pom keychains, but the smaller ones were plentiful.
Since human bunny ears (oxymoron?) would be entirely too large for the small guys, we made some little ears out of felt and Easter ribbon which in my opinion, came out just as cute. I think this Easter Bunny Gnome is my favorite Easter craft so far this year.
Supplies Needed to Make an Easter Bunny Gnome
- Fur ball pom pom keychainÂ
- Felt-(if you don’t have stiff felt you can use a pipe cleaner to make the ears stand up)
- Easter ribbon/fabric
- Craft pom pom
- Bunny Ears-(Optional- you can make these out of felt)
- Glue – (We recommend this glue gun, but if your unsure of what type to use you can check out this guide)
This entire project cost under $5 to make all 3, and we still have a bunch of ribbon and craft pom poms leftover.
I did link to the Amazon version of supplies here, just in case your not able to get out to your local DT in this crazy time, but unfortunately the cost of supplies nearly double. Like seriously, the exact same pom pom keychains that were $1, are $6.75! C’mon, give us a break. I love Amazon don’t get me wrong, but for certain things DT takes the cake.
How to Make an Easter Bunny Gnome
If you are using store bought bunny ears, go ahead and cut them off of the headband.
Otherwise, draw the outer bunny ear shape onto the white felt and the inner ear shape onto the colored easter ribbon/fabric.
Cut both the inner and outer ears out and glue them together. If your felt is the thin kind and not the stiff back felt, you may need to glue a pip cleaner to the back to get them to stand up straight.
Now glue the ears to the top of the pom pom key chain.
Next, glue the craft pom pom to the front about an inch or two below the ears to make the “nose”.
So cute!! You can totally stop here and enjoy your little dudes. But if your thinking gnomebunny can survive without feet…..go ahead and throw together some felt feeties for them.Â
You can add some “whiskers” with twine or pipe cleaner as well. I added whiskers to one, but I think the other looks equally adorable without.
Now plop them up on a shelf or bookcase so they can watch over your home this Easter!Â
If your lovin’ these little balls of fur like its GnomeBunnys business, make sure to check out this Pine Cone Gnome Bunny and these adorable Bunny Butt Pots!
Happy Easter!
