Turn all of your Holiday Patterned Fabric scraps into an adorable Christmas Tree decoration or ornament. These tied Fabric Trees are the perfect addition to your Holiday decor this Season, and the best part is they’re made with 100% leftover supplies. Tis the season to be scrappy, Fa la la la la!
If you’re anything like me, you buy way more craft supplies than you actually have projects to make with them. Ironic, considering I am also super frugal and hate wasting things. When I bought the fabric to make some No-Sew Fabric Christmas Trees, naturally, I bought 4x what I actually needed, and thus these Scrap Fabric Christmas Trees were born.
It all worked out in the end because all the leftover fabric scraps forced me to get creative and come up with this cute Tied Scrap Fabric Christmas Tree! I used a wooden dowel that I also had leftover from the same stuffed fabric tree project, and broke it in half to make two Scrap Fabric Tied Christmas Trees.
You can use any scrap fabric that you have on hand, but of course Christmas or Holiday themed fabric would work best. Just choose whatever fabric would look best with your Christmas décor. If you do a shabby chic pink Christmas, than by all means…make it a pink Scrap Fabric Christmas Tree!

I decided to glue the Scrap Fabric Christmas Tree to a rock that I collected from outside, so altogether this entire project was made with 100% leftover scrap craft supplies for a total cost of $0. If you don’t want to display your Christmas Tree as a standing piece, you could add a piece of ribbon or twine to the top and make it scrap fabric ornament instead.
If you don’t hoard fabric and you’re more of a ribbon hoarder (I’m both), you could make this Christmas Tree with scrap ribbon instead! It would be a perfect way to use up all those leftover ribbon pieces you’ve been saving because “you may need them for something'”.

- Glue gun
- Rotary blade and cutting mat (or scissors)
How to make a Scrap Fabric Tied Christmas Tree with leftover craft supplies
Follow the below easy steps to make your own Scrap Fabric Tied Christmas Tree Decorations and use up all those leftover supplies!
If you are using a full length wooden dowel, break it in half. If you do a full 12″ tall scrap tree, the fabric strips would be too long and would not stand out and hold the tree shape.
Cut about 15 strips of fabric (give or take), approximately 9″ x 1″.
Tie the first piece of scrap fabric around the half wooden dowel using a simple knot, left over right. Tie the second piece of fabric, right over left. Continue to tie the strips of fabric around the dowel alternating left over right and then right over left.
Scrunch the tied pieces together as you go so that they are nice and bunched up. I used about 13-14 strips at first, and then added a few more so the scrap Christmas Tree was nice and full.
Put a dollop of hot glue at the very top to stop the last tied fabric strip from slipping off the top.
Next, cut the ends of the scrap fabric at an upward diagonal to make the shape of the Christmas Tree.
Add any embellishments you’d like. On this particular scrap fabric Christmas Tree I added a super simple twine shoelace bow with a mini silver bell to the top.
Glue the completed Fabric Scrap Tied Christmas Tree to a rock, or some sort of wood base. Alternatively, you could glue a piece of ribbon or twine to the top and turn it into an ornament instead.
