With some sticks from outside and a recycled piece of cardboard, you can make the cutest Rustic Stick Heart for your DIY Valentines Day Decor. This budget friendly craft is not only adorable, but it’s almost free to make and will leave you with the feeling that Love is in the Air!
If you haven’t noticed by now, I love crafting with sticks!
They’re fun. They’re rustic. They’re versatile. And best of all…..They’re FREE.
I made this Rustic Country Pumpkin out of sticks back in the Fall, so I thought it was only right to make a Rustic Stick Heart for Valentines Day this year too.

How to Make a Valentines Day Stick Heart
I made this Stick Heart on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
First things first, trace or draw a heart onto your piece of cardboard for your base. My heart was about 8″ across, but you could make this any size you wish. I found a heart template on Google by searching “free heart template, but you could easily hand draw this as well. Here is the one that I found and I really like the shape of it.
Once you have your cardboard heart, you need to trace and cut a piece of burlap to cover the entire surface, so that the cardboard doesn’t show through once we glue the sticks on. You can use hot glue to attach the burlap since you won’t be able to see it.
Next, you have to make a stand out of Jenga blocks. Stain them all with Antique Wax before gluing them together, so that they match the rest of the heart.
There are several ways you can make the stand, but you can get a feel for how I did it from the next couple of pics. I put a layer of blocks on the bottom, and then for the front of the stand I lined 3 of them them standing up.
I put one block in the middle right, to act as a stand for the side of the heart to lean on, as you can see below.
Now, one by one, glue your sticks onto your cardboard and burlap heart. It is like a bit of a puzzle to get them all on there, but remember it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Now that the stick heart is done, glue it into your Jenga block stand. I put 3 more blocks standing vertically in the back for extra support.
Now for my fave part…embellishments!!! Take a small bunch of raffia, and glue it to the top left hump of the heart. I then added a large dark pink felt rose, with 2 smaller light pink foam roses on each side of it for a beautiful pink trio of roses.
Last but certainly not least, tie some pink sparkly hearts to two pieces of twine, and glue them dangling from under the rose trio.
And there we have it! A gorgeous Rustic Stick Heart that is perfect for Valentines Day, but that you can totally get away with keeping out year round.
