Squeeze your way into summer with this easy peasy DIY Wooden Lemon Decor. This adorable Lemon cutout is made with gorgeous blue, yellow and pink rice paper that will make you want to “Squeeze the Day!”
When life gives you lemons….you craft with them! I had been wanting to craft with this print, “Lemon Woods”, from Digital Deco Designs ever since I first laid eyes on it, but I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to make.
Until I got this Lemon wood cutout from Woodpeckers Crafts that is!
Woodpeckers has a TON of really good quality and AFFORDABLE wood cutouts and is a great option especially if you don’t have a Dollar Tree nearby! Or if you’re like me, and your Dollar Tree is always sold out of all the cute seasonal stuff in like 2.5 seconds!
If you are not familiar with Digital Deco Designs you are MISSING out with a capital M! She makes gorgeous rice paper printables that you can either download and print at home, or you can have them printed and shipped to you.
I have a printer, so I download and print them onto rice paper at home, but either way, once you start Mod Podging rice paper, you can’t stop!
Let’s Squeeze the Day!

How to Make a DIY Wooden Lemon
I made this Wood Lemon Cutout with Digital Deco Designs on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
I also have a short 1 min 30 sec sped up video overview of the process and you can see that one HERE.
The first thing I did was stain all the edge of my wood lemon with Antique Wax. The edges are pretty thick, and I knew you would see them so I wanted them to look more finished.
Then Mod Podge your rice paper to the front of the wood lemon, covering everything except for the leaf.
Sand off all the edges for a nice finished look. I love my Gator sander, but you can use a sanding sponge as well.
Trace the leaf onto a piece of burlap, cut that out, and glue it to the wood leaf. You could decide to paint this or cover with scrapbook paper as well.
To make the tag, rip a small rectangle of Kraft Paper and grunge it up with some antique wax. Cut a piece of muslin, only slightly smaller than the kraft paper and glue that on top. I love the look of the layered tag!
Use a mini stamp set or a sharpie to write “Squeeze the Day” or whatever other silly pun you can come up with. Punch a hole in the top and string a piece of twine through.
Of course we need a big beautiful messy fabric bow. I made mine with my Bowdabra, but you can make any type of bow that you like. In my opinion, the bigger and messier and more variety in color and patterns, the better. #ILikeBigBowsAndICannotLie. (Watch the FB Live to see exactly how I make my Bowdabra Bows)
Glue the bow to the top of the lemon under the leaf.
Glue a Sola Wood Flower with the hangtag, and add a tiny Bee on top. The bee brings out the little bees in the Lemon Woods rice paper.
Here you have it! Sooooo darn cute!! Isn’t it simply the ZEST! 😉
