The Luck O’ the Irish is with you when you craft up this DIY Dollar Tree Shamrock for St. Patricks Day. This shamrock is made with Digital Deco Designs rice paper and the green will save you from getting pinched this St. Paddy’s Day!

If you know me, then you know how much I love Digital Deco Designs rice paper. And this project is no exception! I chose to use “Field O’ Clovers” and it was the perfect print for this.

If you are not familiar with Digital Deco Designs you are MISSING out with a capital M! She makes gorgeous rice paper printables that you can either download and print at home, or you can have them printed and shipped to you.

I have a printer, so I download and print them onto rice paper at home, but either way, once you start Mod Podging rice paper, you can’t stop!

Of course, you don’t HAVE to use her rice paper to make this. You could totally use scrapbook paper for the hearts instead.

Or, you could even paint them if you wanted to. But the contrast in pattern with the green background really makes this craft what it is, so I would recommend using SOME sort of paper, either rice or scrapbook.

Supplies Needed to Make a Dollar Tree Wood Shamrock

• Dollar Tree Wood Shamrock cutout (If you get one on Amazon you will also need wood hearts)
• Digital Deco Designs “Field O’ Clover” Rice paper print
• Green and Black Paint
• Antique Wax
• Antique Gold Rub n Buff
• Muslin
• Fabric/Ribbon for bow
• Kraft paper
• Excelsior
• Twine
• Button
• Mod Podge
• Hot glue gun

How to Make a Dollar Tree Wood Shamrock with Digital Deco Designs Rice paper

I made this Dollar Tree Wood Shamrock Decor on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.

First things first, we have to take the hearts off the shamrock. Heat them up with your heat gun to melt the glue, and then use a paint scraper to pop them off.

Then, trace the hearts onto your Digital Deco Designs rice paper. I chose to use the kitty, the little girl and the Leprechaun hat.

Next, stain the entire thing with Antique Wax.

Then go over the top of that with a watered down dark green color, and then wipe it off with a baby wipe to give it this green tinge.

Glue your hearts with the rice paper back onto the shamrock.

Then take some Antique Gold Rub n Buff and rub it around the edges of the shamrock and the hearts, as much or as little as you like.

Now for the bow! I made a messy fabric bow, but you can make any type of bow you love.

Just take strips of fabric and layer them in a bow formation one on top of the other. Tie the center with twine and add some excelsior for extra pizazz.

To make the hangtag, rip a piece of Kraft paper in a rectangle, leaving the edges ripped and rough. Then rip a small piece of muslin, and glue it on top. On top of the muslin I put a small “Luck of the Irish” picture that I found on Google. You can use any cute print or even part of the left over rice paper.

Grunge up the edges of the hangtag using your Antique Wax.

Punch a hole through the top, string it with twine and then glue it to the center of your bow with a button on top.

Finish it off by ripping a thin strip of coffee stained muslin and stringing it through the top holes so you can hang it.

Oh.EM.GEE. I just love how this turned out!

I am not a huge fan of the color green, but I love the stained effect this one has! It look so good with the Standing Shamrock set that we made in my subscription group, The CRafterparty!

No one will be pinching you for not displaying green this St. Patricks Day when you make this adorable Mixed Media 4 Leaf Clover. This funky glitter clover is the perfect way to say “Kiss me, I’m Irish”!

Let me start by saying that I know that the 4 Leaf Clover is not technically a St. Patricks Day Symbol.

This craft is just for fun, and since “LUCK” is typically used when referring to St. Pattys, and a 4 leaf clover is for “LUCK”, then I decided to make a clover (rather than a Shamrock) for this particular St. Patricks Day craft.

Supplies Needed to Make a Mixed Media 4 Leaf Clover

• Dollar Tree round surface
• Green glitter paper
• Variety of Neutral scrapbook paper (Black, white, beige, etc)
• Animal print stencils (or any stencils you like)
• Tim Holtz Distressed Ink – Black Soot
• White paint
• Black Paint Pen
• White Paint Pen
• Mod Podge
• Paint scraper or old credit card

How to Make a 4 Leaf Clover Craft

The full tutorial for this one is a video instead of a written blog post, because writing out the steps just won’t do it justice without pics. I’ll walk you through a few pictures I took, but you’re really gonna want to check out that replay that I linked above to get the step by step!

First you can get a template of a 4 leaf clover (or a Shamrock if you prefer to make it like that) right off of Google. Just search “Free 4 Leaf Clover template” and then print, cut, and trace onto your green glitter paper.

For the background I ripped up a bunch of neutral scrapbook paper and Mod Podged it to the surface in a patchwork style. I then smeared white paint all over the top using a paint scraper so that you could see some of the paper through the paint.

I added random animal print stencils around it for extra mixed media pizazz. I took my Tim Holtz distressed ink and rubbed it all along the outer edge to get that black streaks like you see below.

After gluing the 4 Leaf clover to the Mixed Media round surface, I took a black paint pen and outlined the clover with a solid black line, and then followed that up with white dots.

It needed just a liiiittlllleeee something else once I was done. And I knew just what it needed….

A mini BOW!

Here it is all together, and I absolutely love how this Mixed Media 4 Leaf Clover turned out.

You can get as funky and creative with this as you like. You can even add other elements or colors to it like stickers, or paper embellishments for an even truer mixed media vibe!

I used this same background technique in a Valentines project that we made in The CRafterparty too!

The Luck of the Irish is with you for this easy to make leopard print rainbow cutting board for St. Patricks Day! This DIY St. Patty’s decor was inspired by a LUCKY Leopard Rainbow shirt I have from Walmart. So naturally, I added a leopard print shamrock and turned it into a craft project!

Inspiration is everywhere. It’s all around you. It’s outside. It’s at the beach. It’s on TV and Pinterest. And it’s at Walmart!

You’re actually WEARING your inspiration. You’re very next craft idea very well may be on your body! Am I the only one?! LOL!

I saw this adorable LUCKY leopard print rainbow shirt at Walmart for $9 whole dollars and of course I had to have it. I mean c’mon it’s adorable.

It wasn’t until after I got it home and wore it once or twice that I thought to myself “Ya know that would make a super cute St. Patricks Day craft!” So that’s exactly what I did!

The Luck O’ the Irish is on your side with this unique and adorable Jeans Pocket Patchwork Shamrock DIY! Nobody will Pinch you for not wearing green when you decorate with this amazing St. Patrick’s Day decor.

We made THE cutest Patchwork Shamrock in The CRafterparty last week! So cute and I loved the patterns that we used so much that I decided to make this entirely different, yet coordinating project to go along with it!

There’s just something about this combo that is Lucky, Wild, and fun! The Leopard Print, the Camo, the Music Sheet, the Burlap, the Buffalo check, the green glitter….a match made in Crafty Heaven! So I decided to take that same project we did, and turn it into an entirely different project with a fun jeans pocket twist.

And this Jeans Pocket Patchwork Shamrock idea was born!

Supplies Needed to make a Jeans Pocket Patchwork Shamrock

• Dollar Tree “tag” shaped sign- I used the back (Amazon has some but they are a bit smaller)
• Old pair of jeans -You’ll need a back pocket and a strip for the hanger
• White paint
• Sharpie or pencil
• Scrapbook paper – Buffalo Check, Leopard Print, Music Sheet, Green Glitter, Camo, Green Polka Dot
• Burlap
• Cardstock
• Shamrock template – You can search and print right from Google
• Mod Podge
• Foam board – To raise some of the shamrocks off the surface
• Hot glue gun

How to Make a Jeans Pocket Patchwork Shamrock for St Patrick’s Day

Take a walk on the wild side with this St. Patrick’s Day DIY Decor!

We started this off by doing a faux shiplap background on the back of the Dollar Tree Tag. It’s so simple you just paint it all white, and then use a ruler/straightedge to draw lines with a sharpies every 1.5″- 2″ inches. I did 1.5″ but in retrospect I would have done more like 2-2.5″.

Then I cut the pocket out of an old pair of blue jeans and glued that right to the bottom front of the shiplap background.

I chose a whole bunch of coordinating and fun scrapbook paper patterns and colors for the shamrocks, and then tore little pieces off of each of them to make the patchwork shamrock that you see on the back of the jeans pocket. Just rip and Mod Podge them on piece by piece so you get that “patchwork” look.

The patchwork shamrock is literally a mini version of a project we just made in The CRafterparty, which is where I got this idea from. The CRafterparty is my private VIP craft crafting group where we get together and craft once a week inside a Facebook Group, with a supply list ahead of time so that you can craft along if you like!

Then cut out a bunch of varying sized smaller shamrocks out of cardstock, and make each one a pattern that is in the patchwork shamrock. Just trace the cardstock shamrocks onto the scrapbook paper, and Mod Podge those babies on, one by one until you have a bunch of different patterns and sizes.

Glue them on the wooden tag, so that they look like they are spilling out of the pocket, using a piece of foam board to raise some of them up and off of the surface to give it dimension.

Add a strip of ripped jeans as the hanger and you’ve got yourself the cutest and most unique St. Patrick’s Day piece of decor ever.

Why make a project for just one holiday, when you can make one for TWO! These Love and Luck Reversible Blocks take your decor from Valentines Day right on into St. Patrick’s Day, all you have to do is turn them around! They’ll take you from “Love is in the Air” to “Pinch me I’m Irish”!

I love decorating and crafting for every single solitary holiday. The only problem is, sometimes they come and go so darn quick that you barely even get to enjoy the fruits of your crafting labor! And THAT is why these Reversible LOVE/LUCK blocks are so much fun!

You get to enjoy them from the beginning of the New Year getting ready for Valentine’s Day, right on up and through March 17th…St. Patrick’s Day!

I’m not gonna lie, I think most all of the crafts that I do are super cute. #SorryNotSorry. But this one that we did in my VIP Crafting Group, The CRafterparty, upped the cuteness factor by 1 million percent!

Luck O’ the Irish! Dollar Tree is the go-to for Holiday craft supplies and decor, so of course they have a wooden Shamrock in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day. This DIY Dollar Tree Shamrock is super easy to makeover, and why not have some fun by adding Leopard print into the mix! The best part of this project is that it only costs $1, and the rest of the supplies you just may already have on hand!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and the Shamrock crafts are in full effect! The only thing is, the St. Patty’s Day DIYS are looking a little bit different this year than usual. Why you ask? Leopard print!!

I’m just a little bit obsessed with leopard print right now, and it’s spilling over into my Holiday crafts and decor. It started with a fun Valentine Truck Shelf Sitter I made for V Day, and carried right on over to the St. Patrick’s Day Door Hanger we made to kick off the Holiday!

If you’re feeling a little more traditional and don’t want to have the funkyness of the Leopard, feel free to swap it out with some Burlap, or whatever color or pattern you love. Either way, this DIY Dollar Tree Shamrock is a breeze to make, and costs just a few bucks. Which is just the way we all love our DIY crafts to be, cheap and easy!

Supplies Needed to Make a DIY Dollar Tree Shamrock for St. Patty’s Day

• Wooden Shamrock
• Green paint – (I used Artists Loft Deep Green)
• Brown paint or stain
• Vaseline
• Buffalo check fabric or scrapbook paper
• Leopard print scrapbook paper
• Green camo scrapbook paper
• Lace
• Scrabble tiles – “Lucky”
• Mod Podge
• Hot glue gun – (I highly recommend the Surebonder cordless!)
• Paint scraper
• Wooden base- I used a round wooden picture frame from Dollar Tree and pulled the round part off, leaving the base

How to Makeover a Dollar Tree Wooden Shamrock

Follow the below written steps to makeover a DIY Dollar Tree Shamrock or you can go here to watch the Facebook Live Replay. I don’t have any in progress photos since this was done Live, but I’ll do my best to write detailed instructions.

Pull the 3 wooden hearts off of the Shamrock

The best way to do this is to heat up the surface with a blow dryer or heat gun, and use a paint scraper to gently pull the wooden heart up and off of the Shamrock. This may take a little bit of playing and shimmying the paint scraper underneath, and some of them seem to come off easier than others.

Prepare and paint the Shamrock

Use watered down brown paint and a baby wipe to stain the Shamrock brown. You could also use actual stain, but watered down paint is cheaper and works just as good for this project.

Now were going to make it look “chippy”, using Vaseline and green paint. Use an old paint brush to brush Vaseline along the surface of the stained wood, applying it haphazardly in random places, but do NOT cover the entire surface. Make some spots a little thicker covered, some just a thin amount of Vaseline, and then some spots have none. Think of it this way, wherever the Vaseline is, the paint will “chip” in the next step. This doesn’t have to be perfect, just play around with it. It takes some practice to get it just right, but don’t worry well be covering most of the sign anyway, just have fun!

Paint a thick coat of green paint over the entire sign, right on top of the Vaseline. Now, take a heat gun or blow-dryer and dry the top coat of the green paint until its mostly dry, but the underside of the paint is still wet. It should be dry to the touch so that when you touch it with your finger, your finger does not get green paint on it. Now, take a paint scraper, and drag it lightly across the surface, focusing on the spots that had the Vaseline. Adjust the pressure you use as you go depending on if it’s “chipping” to your liking. Do this as little or as much as you like until it has the look your going for.

Cover the 3 wooden hearts with patterned papers

Trace the heart shape onto the patterned paper that you want to use, and cut each one out. Mod Podge each one to the top of the heart by applying a thin layer of Mod Podge to each. Don’t worry if the paper heart hangs off the edge or is a little bit bigger than the wooden heart, we’ll take care of that next.

Using a sanding sponge, or sanding block, sand off the edges of the heart to remove any extra scrapbook paper. Make sure to sand in a downward direction so that you don’t lift the paper up off of the heart.

Put the Shamrock together and add the “Lucky” Scrabble Tiles

Glue the wooden hearts to the inside of the Shamrock in whatever order that you like, but I chose to do the green camo/lace in the middle.

Glue the stem of the Shamrock to the wooden base. You could also skip this step if you want to hang it on a door or wall, or if you don’t have anything to use as a base. I just used a wooden picture frame from Dollar Tree that I pulled apart and the Shamrock is glued to the bottom base like you see below.

Glue the “LUCKY” scrabble tiles downward on the Shamrock stem. How cute is this!?

If you aren’t as Leopard print crazed as I am, you could always make this St. Patrick’s Day Door Hanger and replace the “L” with another pattern or color of your liking. Get creative, the Shamrock is the limit!

Supplies Needed to Make a DIY St. Patrick’s Day “Luck” Door Hanger

• Dollar Tree Valentine Sign (you can use any type of surface or wood blank to make this)
• 4 Wooden rounds (I got mine at the Christmas Tree farm when we got our tree but you can get them on Amazon too)
• White paint (acrylic or chalk)
• Brown paint or stain
• Vaseline
• Paint scraper
• Leopard print scrapbook paper
• Buffalo Check fabric
• Glitter Shamrock embellishment
• Sticks (YES! Sticks from outside)
• Lace
• Raffia
• Cardboard
• Assorted ribbon to match (I used gold, bright green glittery, green burlap)
• Zip tie

How to Make a Door Hanger from a Dollar Tree sign for St. Patrick’s Day

Follow the below written steps to make a DIY St’ Patrick’s Day “Luck” Door Hanger or you can go here to watch the Facebook Live Replay.

Prepare and paint the wooden sign

Stain the entire back of the Dollar Tree sign brown using watered down brown paint and a baby wipe or wet paper towel. The best way to do this is to squirt some brown paint on a paper plate, spray it with a spray water bottle and then use a baby wipe to stain the surface of the wooden sign. You can also use regular stain, but the watered down paint method works just as well and it’s cheaper!

Now were going to make it look “chippy”, using Vaseline and white paint. Use an old paint brush to brush Vaseline along the surface of the stained wood, applying it haphazardly in random places, but do NOT cover the entire surface. Make some spots a little thicker covered, some just a thin amount of Vaseline, and then some spots have none. Think of it this way, wherever the Vaseline is, the paint will “chip” in the next step. This doesn’t have to be perfect, just play around with it. It takes some practice to get it just right, but don’t worry well be covering most of the sign anyway, just have fun!

Paint a thick coat of white paint over the entire sign, right on top of the Vaseline. Now, take a heat gun or blow-dryer and dry the top coat of the white paint until its mostly dry, but the underside of the paint is still wet. It should be dry to the touch so that when you touch it with your finger, your finger does not get white. Now, take a paint scraper, and drag it lightly across the surface, focusing on the spots that had the Vaseline. Adjust the pressure you use as you go depending on if it’s “chipping” to your liking. Do this as little or as much as you like until it has the look your going for.

Glue the 4 wooden rounds to the “Chippy” paint sign, 2 on top and 2 under that, leaving room at the top for the Messy Scrap Ribbon Bow.

Let’s make the “LUCK” letters.

Draw an “L” and a “C” on a piece of cardboard and cut them out. Trace the “L” onto the Leopard scrapbook paper, and cut that out. Do the same to the “C” on the Buffalo Check fabric (you could use buff check paper too).

Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the surfaces of the cardboard letters, and attach the Leopard to the “L”, and the Buff Check to the “C”.

Cut a thin strip of the lace, just wide enough to wrap around each of the wood sticks, and attach the lace using Mod Podge. This was a little bit tricky, since the lace did not stick to the stick until it started to dry a bit. The easiest way to do this is to cover the stick in a thin layer of Mod Podge, then roll it on the lace, and keep holding and twisting with your fingers until it starts to dry and stick.

Glue the letters to the wooden rounds, using a Shamrock embellishment for the “U”, and 3 lacey sticks to make the “K”.

Make a messy scrap ribbon bow

Last step is to make the huge messy scrap fabric and ribbon bow to put on top of our St. Patty’s Day DIY Door Hanger! If ya ask me, the messier the better.

Cut several pieces of ribbon, and strips of lace and buffalo check fabric, approximately 8 inches long. Don’t worry about them being perfect. Don’t worry about them all being the same length. Just cut random strips, even making some of them intentionally longer or shorter.

Now begin to layer the pieces of ribbon in a cross cross fashion, one on top of the other, forming an X shape. Just randomly alternate the ribbon as you layer them, you don’t have to keep any particular pattern. You can see exactly how I made the bow in this video here.

Take a zip tie and tie it around the center of the “X”, and pull super tight. Fluff out all the pieces and trim any that need trimming or are super long. Just play with it and fluff until it looks all messy and shabby!

Glue the messy crap ribbon bow to the top of the Door Hanger sign, above the wooden rounds. Take some raffia and glue it to the center of the bow to finish it off.

And there ya have it! A DIY Door Hanger for St. Patty’s with a wild Leopard print flare. This piece is sure to make a statement hanging on your front door, and it may even entice a Leprechaun to come by for a visit! Hopefully, it will even bring you a but of “Luck”!
