You will never look at a gift bag the same after seeing this Christmas Church Gift Bag Window frame made from a reverse canvas. This cute and clever DIY Christmas decor idea will have you on the hunt for gift bags at Walmart, Dollar Tree, Target, and wherever Christmas gift bags are sold!
If you haven’t crafted with gift bags before, you will be now! Walmart has some of the absolute CUTEST gift bags ever, and that’s where I got this Christmas church one, but you can get them at lots of other places too.
Be on the lookout at Dollar Tree, HomeGoods, Target, Marshalls, TJ Max, basically anywhere!
Last year I made the absolute prettiest Red Christmas Barn Reverse Canvas with a different Walmart gift bag, and this year it’s the Christmas church. But don’t make me choose a fave!
Gift bag crafts are not just for Christmas, you can make adorable Valentines Day, Easter, and Mothers Day ones too. Those are pretty much the main 3 Holidays that you are gifting things to others (besides Christmas), so it’s unlikely you’ll find a cute Patriotic or St. Patty’s Day gift bag but hey, ya never know.

How to Make a Christmas Church Gift Bag Window
I made this Christmas Church Gift Bag Window on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
Start by cutting out the front of the Christmas Church gift bag, I used the side that had the glittery snow.
I used a reverse canvas frame that I had already taken the canvas off of, so I don’t go over that part in this blog post/video, but you can see the exact steps of how I reverse a canvas for another project I did HERE.
Once you have just the frame, trace it onto a piece of cardboard to make the backing.
Use an X-Acto knife or box cutter to cut it out. You can use scissors as well, but the X-acto knife gives you a much cleaner cut.
Cover the cardboard with a thick layer of Mod Podge.
Place your Christmas Church gift bag on top, and smooth out with your hands, or with a Brayer (I LOVE my Brayer!).
Trim any excess gift bag that hangs off from around the edge of the cardboard.
Paint both the reverse canvas frame AND the wooden skewers all black.
Brush the white home decor wax over the top, and then wipe with a baby wipe, concentrating on the corners. This gives it an almost “snowy night” vibe.
Cut the skewers to fit across the bag. One across horizontally, and one vertically up and down. This makes it look like a window!
I put my horizontal skewer about a quarter of the way down, because if it was right across the middle it would cover the wreath on top of the door.
Use a staple gun to staple the cardboard and gift bag to the back of the reverse canvas frame. You can use hot glue if you have to, but the staple gun definitely holds better.
Next for the fun part! Put a heavy layer of Mod Podge in the corners of the frame, and then sprinkle with fake snow. Dump the excess and allow it to dry.
I also added some on the top of the window pane. Imagine the wind blowing, it would blow the snow right into the corners of the window. You can do as much or as little as you like.
Then, I used my Bowdabra to make a simple shoestring bow. You definitely don’t NEED a Bowdabra to do this, but I used it since I have it!
Now start glueing the decorations to the top left corner, starting with the red glitter leaves first.
Then add the faux pine on top.
Next layer the pine cone berry picks.
And lastly, glue the bow right in the middle with a rusty bell, and the red cardinal on top.
Finish it off by gluing a piece of twine across the back to hang.
This is just the most gorgeous Christmas Church Gift Bag window that I ever did see!
