Turn an ordinary wooden clothespin into cute and feathered friend with this fun and easy Thanksgiving Turkey craft for kids. This Clothespin Turkey is easy to put together and can be made with just a few supplies you may already have on hand!
I don’t know about you, but we love to craft with everyday household items in this house. I went on a bit of a Clothespin Wreath making spree over the summer, and now I’ve got a a bunch of leftover clothespins that are just dying to be transformed. With the Holidays right around the corner, it’s time to put them to good crafting use, and this Thanksgiving Clothespin Turkey is first on the list just in time for Thanksgiving.
We went a little Turkey Crafting Crazy now that Halloween is over and came up with a Toilet Paper Roll Turkey Windsock and cute Pine Cone Turkey too!
Feathers are such a fun supply to craft with, my Twins just loved it and I’m sure your kiddos will too! It was also just as much fun (if not more) for our cat, Melo. In fact it became more of a game between him and the boys to try and attack the feathers while they tried to glue them to the clothespin. Fun times!
You can make the clothespin turkey with felt instead of real crafting feathers if that is all you have on hand, or if you can’t get your cat to leave the real ones alone like ours. Or, you can go ahead and make a few of each kind for fun. Either way, the kiddos will love making this Clothespin Turkey craft and it’s a perfect way to kick off the Holiday crafting season!

How to make a Clothespin Turkey with Feathers or Felt for Thanksgiving
Follow the below easy steps to turn a clothespin into a fun and Feathered (or felted) Clothespin Turkey craft for Thanksgiving!
First, paint the wooden clothespins all brown and allow to dry completely.
Cut a yellow triangle out of felt to make a beak, and a red oblong piece out of felt to make the Snood (did you know it was called that?!)
Glue the Googly eyes, beak, and snood to the clothespin to make the Turkeys face.
Using glue to secure in place, open up the clothespin and stick feathers into the opening, fanning them out as you go. Close the clothespin, clipping the fanned out feathers in place and hold until the glue dries enough to hold the feathers without falling out.
How to use felt for your Turkey instead of feathers
You will have to make sure you’re using stiff backed felt, or the “feathers” will not stand up and fan out all pretty, they will just flop over instead.
Draw a long thin oval shape ono the felt with a thin marker. You can freehand this as it does not need to be perfect. We chose 2 orange, 1 yellow, 1 red, and 1 green. 5 felt “feathers” seemed to be the perfect amount.
Cut each of the felt pieces out, and attach to the clothespin in the same manner used with the feathers described in the instructions above. Basically glue, fan, and hold until dry.
Now you’ve got Clothespin Turkeys 2 ways! Which way do you like better, the clothespin with the real feathers or the Turkey with the felt? We couldn’t decide, so we made one of each!
This is such a fun and simple craft you can do with the kiddos in preparation for Thanksgiving which is just around the corner. Now if only cooking the darn Turkey was just as easy!
