Celebrate your love for all the colors of the rainbow, or show your Pride for the month of June. Either way this Denim Rainbow Rag Flag is sure to make a statement. With the rainbow fabric strips, fun colored trims, and stenciled white hearts, this DIY flag craft is a reminder that Love is LOVE!!
I don’t need a reason or an excuse to craft all the colors of the rainbow, but if YOU need one then Pride month in June is the perfect excuse!
Don’t worry if you’re not diggin’ the Rainbow, this could just as easily be made into a patriotic rag flag by swapping out the rainbow with good ‘ole red, white, and blue! I made a patriotic one last year and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out.
I normally prefer my rainbows “Lisa Frank Style”, AKA pink rainbow instead of red, but since I was gifted a bunch of amazing rainbow trim I decided to go the traditional route.
I’m so happy that I did because this Denim Rainbow Rag Flag is all that and a bag a chips!

How to Make a Denim Rainbow Rag Flag
I made this Denim Rainbow Rag Flag on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
Start with a piece of denim from an old pair of jeans. I cut a rectangle out of the thigh (lord knows it was big enough LOL). It really doesn’t matter what size you make your flag, but mine was about 9″ x 6″.
Then, using a heart stencil and a spouncer I painted white hearts randomly all over the denim top.
I glued a strip of rainbow fringe along the top portion of the denim.
And a strip of rainbow pom pom trim along the bottom edge of the denim.
Next, I ripped up a bunch of fabric into long thin strips, about 10″ x 1.5″. Glue them to the back bottom of the denim in the order of the rainbow (ROYGBIV).
For the hanger, I ripped the seam off of the bottom of the pant leg and it worked perfectly! I just glued that right to the top.
