This DIY brings a whole new meaning to “Decorating Easter Eggs”, and I mean that in the best of ways! Take some ordinary tinsel Easter Eggs from the Dollar Tree and transform them into these adorable velvet yarn wrapped Easter Eggs with just a few supplies. This one is easy enough for the kiddos to make, but fun enough for the grown ups too. Hoppy Easter to all!
You guys!! This Dollar Tree DIY is SO simple, yet the outcome is SO super adorable that you’ve just got to give this a try. This is a great project to get the kiddos involved because wrapping the yarn is both fun and easy to do. It’s certainly a new way of “Decorating Eggs” this Easter, and it’s a whole heck of a lot less messy too!
You could hang these DIY Dollar Tree Yarn Wrapped Easter Eggs from the ceiling, in a doorway, on the wall, or you could even set them on a bookcase alongside some other Easter decor. Whatever you choose, they’ll definitely bring some adorableness to the scene.
This blog post and video talk specifically about the smaller tinsel eggs from Dollar Tree that come in the set of 3 hanging vertically, but you could totally make them with the larger tinsel eggs as well. The only difference is it would cost $2 to make just one egg, because they are $1 a piece. But you could even wrap the yarn around just one, instead of making them 3D, and this way it would only be $1 and they would lay flat against the wall too. The choice is yours!

Supplies Needed to Make Dollar Tree Yarn Wrapped Easter Eggs Decor
- Tinsel Easter Eggs – (I don’t see the small ones I used on Amazon, but you can find the larger ones there and they would be just as cute!)
- Velvety Yarn
- Ribbon of your choice – I used lace burlap, pink burlap, teal burlap, and an Easter colored pattern
- Faux Flower (optional)
- Hot glue (you could make do without the hot glue for kids)
How to Makeover a Dollar Tree Tinsel Egg by Wrapping in Yarn
These Dollar Tree Yarn Wrapped Eggs are super easy to make. You may even be able to make them on your own without a tutorial, but I’ve got a video for you just in case! You can see how easy this one is to make by going HERE, or watching the video below.
Time needed: 30 minutes
DIY Dollar Tree Yarn Wrapped Easter Egg Decoration for Kids and Adults
- Remove the tinsel for the plastic egg frames.
Make sure to save it to use on a future project!
- Hot glue the 2 frames together to make the Easter egg 3D.
If you’re doing this with kiddos, you can wrap a piece of twine around the eggs to secure them before wrapping with the yarn, instead of using hot glue.
- Wrap the Velvet Yarn around the 3D egg.
Tie one end to the plastic frame to start it, and then just wrap, wrap, wrap away. You can go in every which way, or you can wrap it one direction for a neater look. We went with every which way.
- Decorate with ribbon, flowers, or whatever embellishments you choose.
Glue a strip of 2″ wide ribbon around the center, and then glue a faux flower to the front. Cut circles out of the colored burlap, and glue them on the egg as “polka dots”.
- Add a piece of string or twine for hanging and enjoy!
