There’s nothing I love more than a good fabric craft, and some beautiful Sunflower decor. This project combines the two into a bright and cheerful DIY Fabric Sunflower. The blue and yellow really pop and are the perfect way to ring in Spring and take you right on into Summer!
When I saw this bundle of blue and yellow Sunflower fabric at Walmart, I about fainted over how gorgeous it was (dramatic much?! lol) I have been waiting to find the perfect project to make with it, and this DIY Fabric Sunflower is just it!
Can I just tell you how much I am obsessed with Sunflowers?! I have OSD…..Obsessive Sunflower Disorder. I enjoy them year round, don’t get me wrong, but I reallllllyy think they are a true sign that Summer is on it’s way. If there is any way at all to work a Sunflower into one of my crafts, then trust me I’m gonna do it. #SunflowerLover
You could make this DIY Fabric Sunflower in any pattern or color scheme that matches your decor, it certainly doesn’t have to be the yellow and blues that you see here.
Now this isn’t the first DIY Fabric Sunflower I’ve ever made. It’s actually my THIRD! I’ve made one for Spring last year and I made one for Fall. But this one has got to be my fave. Maybe it’s the fact that its the Ukraine colors and flower, so it’s not just pretty but has a special meaning behind it too

How to Make a Fabric Sunflower for Spring or Summer
I made this gorgeous DIY Fabric Sunflower on video, so you can WATCH the step by step tutorial HERE or click on the picture right below.
First thing we’re gonna do is cut the petals out of the fabric and the burlap. Mine were about 3-4 inches long and once I drew and cut one that I liked the shape, I used that as a template to cut the others. I cut a total of 13 petals.
Now let’s prepare our surface. This was a bit time consuming, because I wasn’t able to separate the backing from the frame, so I had to tape the entire thing off. But it was easy nonetheless. Just tape off the frame, and paint the entire thing blue. Once that has dried, tape off the background, and paint that white.
Now let’s Mod Podge our Fabric Sunflower petals to our surface. I recommend arranging them first to see how they look and spread out the different pattern fabric. Then use a paint brush to paint the Mod Podge onto the fabric and glue them to the background. I used the wooden round as a guide to make sure I was staying in a concentric circle.
Now glue your wooden round to the center. And glue your sticks as the Sunflowers stem, with a couple of green leaves.
Paint your wooden “Hello” cutout yellow or whatever color you choose. Glue the word to a rectangular piece of burlap and then add them to the bottom left of the Fabric Sunflower.
Now for the finishing touches, add a a few little bees here and there to give it that extra warm weather vibe!
There we have it! You’ve got yourself a gorgeous DIY Fabric Sunflower to add to your DIY Spring or Summer decor this year! I don’t know if I like this one better or the Spring Scrap Fabric Flower I made last year, they are both so different and amazing in their own ways.
