These DIY Palm Trees make a the perfect prop for any Luau, summer pool party, or in my case a Sonic the Hedgehog party! They are super quick and easy to make with just 2 supplies.
Party planning is one of my most favoritist (is that a word?) things to do in the whole wide world! So this time of year is always super exciting to me because this month my Twins turn 9!Â
Every year I say the same thing, “I am going to keep it simple this year, I swear”. And every year I get going on the DIYing and I lose control. It’s a problem really. This year I really meant it tho! Until I got started, whoops.
Party planning can definitely be stressful if you don’t have a plan. That’s why I made this handy Party Planning Checklist so that I don’t forget a thing! If you need a little help taking the stress off your next party, grab my trusty checklist. Trust me, you need it! Click the below image to grab your free checklist.
Since this years party is going to look a little different due to the whole social distancing thing, I really didn’t want to stress myself out over the whole 4 guests that may be there. But what can I say, even if my babies won’t have many friends there I can still make it extra special!
I tend to DIY everything and anything I can when I’, throwing a party. Why? because I’m hella frugal! Pretty much anything you see in the stores to buy for decorations, I can make for a fraction of the cost. That is the number one reason I started DIY’ing all my party pinatas, because the $50+ item costs about $2 to make!
These DIY Palm Trees are part of the Sonic the Hedgehog game party prop that I made, as well as a photo booth prop for us to save some Super Sonic memories. These are so easy to make that you could use them for a Luau, or a summer pool party too!
So needless to say, along with the DIY Palm Trees I am making Sonic Golden Rings, Sonic the Hedgehog centerpieces, Sonic Banner, Sonic Pinata and probably a few other things that I haven’t even thought up yet.Â
This party is going to be a Super Sonic 9th Birthday!

How to Make DIY Palm Trees for Party Decorations
Follow the below easy steps to make a DIY Palm Tree decoration for your next summer party. The steps below are for 1 palm tree, so just double or triple everything if you are making multiple trees.
Draw the palm tree leaf outline onto the green felt
We made 3 leaves for each tree, but you could do 4-5 if you are feeling extra ambitious
Cut out the green felt palm tree leaves
Cut slits in a downward angle all along the sides of each leaf
Glue a green pipe cleaner down the middle backside of each leaf
Glue the leaves to the inside top of the empty cardboard roll
Mold the leaves into the desired palm tree shape
Bend the cardboard slightly to give the effect that the palm tree is leaning
That’s it! Super easy right? You can make a DIY Palm Tree for your next summer pool party, or as a photo booth prop for a Luau. Or if you just happen to have a Sonic the Hedgehog birthday party, we’ve got you covered.
Make sure to check out our DIY Pinata tutorial so that you can save even more money on your DIY Party. Once we have the party next week, I’ll be sure to post all the details!
