Celebrate and decorate your Tiered Tray for summer with an easy, fun, and colorful DIY Rainbow Wood Bead Garland! This garland is a statement piece that’s perfect to craft and decorate with for Pride Month in June, or even if you simply just love Rainbows like me. Either way…Love is Love!
I definitely don’t need an excuse to craft with all the colors of the rainbow, but if you do need an excuse, then Pride Month in June is the perfect reason to make this DIY Rainbow Wood Bead Garland.
Wood Bead garlands are so much fun to make, and you can make one in any theme under the sun. Name a theme, any theme, and I guarantee someone has made a wood bead garland in it! The last one I made was a Snowman Wood Bead Garland for Christmas, and this Rainbow one won’t be the last.

How to Make a Rainbow Wood Bead Garland
I made this beautiful Rainbow Wood Bead Garland on video, so you can WATCH the step by step tutorial HERE or by clicking the below pic.
Wood bead garlands can be intimidating, but they are extremely easy to make. First you just choose your beads and decide on what pattern you want the sizes and colors to be. For this one, I chose Rainbow colored, obvi, and then I used 3 different sizes to mix it up.
I decided to do each color portion in a certain pattern. The pattern I used was 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm. So each color has 6 total beads, in that order. You 100% do NOT have to use the same pattern as me! You could even do them all the same size.
**(I actually messed up my own pattern as you can tell if you look closely and count the beads above, but SHHHHH…I’m explaining the pattern that this was SUPPOSED to have.)
- 6 Red – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
- 6 Orange – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
- 6 Yellow – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
- 6 Green – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
- 6 Blue – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
- 6 Purple – 25mm, 25mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 30mm
Then separate your beads into piles for each color that you’re going to paint them. There are a few different tricks to painting wood beads, but my favorite by far is to put them on skewers and paint them one by one that way.
Some people swear by putting them in a baggie or in a bowl and mixing them around with paint, but for me I think the paint gets too think and chunky and super hard to dry so I prefer the skewer method. Do what works for YOU!
Once your beads are all painted and dried, string them onto a piece of twine in pattern above. Tie several knots on each end to keep the beads in place.
The tassel is probably the hardest part of this project, but it’s still super easy! You can check out the Facebook Live replay and scroll to minute 43:00 to see exactly how I made this DIY tassel. Tie your tassel to the end of your Rainbow Wood Bead Garland.
Last thing is to add the galvanized metal hang tag. I first put the phrase “LOVE IS LOVE” in fun black and white patterned alphabet letters on the hang tag. Then add a small buffalo check shoelace bow to the top of it, and tie it to the opposite end of the Rainbow Wood Bead Garland.
There you have it! An adorable and colorful garland to add to your summer sunshine and rainbows tiered tray, or a fun way to decorate and celebrate Pride Month this June. Perfect for any Tiered Tray!
