Scrap wood, a free sunflower rice paper printable, and a big messy fabric bow comes together to make this gorgeous and cheerful piece of DIY decor. This piece is sure to help you “Enjoy the Little Things” in your home, and in your life!
On one sunny Friday afternoon, I went to take my garbage out like any ordinary day. And then I saw it……
A large piece of scrap wood that was calling my name!
Of course that bad boy came inside with me. And as soon as I came across this printable, I knew it was perfect for this piece of wood.
The thing is, it was WAY bigger than I needed it to be.
So out came my small Harbor Freight table saw, and I was able to cut it in half to be the perfect size for this.
I’m so happy I finally put that saw to good use!

How to Make a DIY Scrap Wood Sunflower Decor
I made this Scrap Wood Sunflower Decor on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
I started by printing this gorgeous free sunflower printable that I found on Pinterest onto rice paper, and cut it out.
I took my scrap wood (that I found at my dumpster), and painted the center part of it white where the printable will cover, and then dry brushed each of the ends white. We’re going to grunge them later, don’t worry.
Then I covered the center area with a decent later of Mod Podge to decoupage the print onto the wood.
I placed the rice paper onto the wood as straight as I could, but I wasn’t worried about it being perfect.
Then I smoothed it out with my brayer (you need one of these handy tools if you don’t already have one!).
Next, I sanded the excess rice paper off the edges with my Gator Sander.
Next, I grunged up all the edges and corners with my Kilz Dark Wax by rubbing it all along the edges of the wood and around the printable.
For the bow, I ripped up a bunch of strips of coordinating fabric about 1″ wide and 15″ long.
Then I used my Bowdabra to make a big messy bow. (You don’t NEED a Bowdabra but I absolutely love mine and it makes bow making so much easier and more fun!)
I glued the bow to the top right corner-ish of the wood, and then added in some greenery to fluff it up.
For the hangtag, I had some paper tags that I had previously coffee stained, but I added a little more dark wax to grunge them even more.
Then I stamped them with my Acrylic stamp set with a sunflower first, and then “Enjoy the little things” on the top.
I glued the tag to the center of the bow with a large brown button on top.
In LOVE. OBsessed. *All the things*.
