Dollar Tree gift bags are made with some of the absolute cutest images that it’s hard to believe they are just meant for holding gifts! Well they don’t have to be for just that if you don’t want, and I’m here to show you with this Farmhouse Gift Bag Window DIY!
Whatever you do, do not sleep on the Gift Bag aisle of the Dollar Tree! Or even Walmart for that matter. You can find some of THE most adorbs gift bags, especially around any of the Holidays. What do you do with them you may ask? Well the possibilities are literally endless!
I usually have to show some restraint because I want to buy them alllllllllll, but I do have a few faves! This Pink and Gold Heart made for chic Valentines DIY, as well as this Rainbow “Somebunny Loves You” one for Easter. Like I said, Possibilities. Endless.
If you’ve been around my crafts and blog for any amount of time, you know that I’m not a huge Farmhouse Fanatic. Let’s face it, I don’t do anything Farmhouse-y at all, I prefer lot’s and lot’s of vibrant colors and whimsy fun, so the fact that I Love this project shows how ADORBS this Dollar Tree Farmhouse Gift bag is (am I right or am I right?)!

You could, of course, use this Dollar Tree Farmhouse Gift Bag as what it was intended for…..to give gifts. But I assure you the recipient of that bag would definitely save it to make this Farmhouse Window DIY, so that’s what we’re gonna do here!

Supplies needed to make a Farmhouse Window Frame Craft
- 4 picture frames – 3X5 wood or plastic
- White chalk paint
- Gift bag of your choice – I used a Christmas Farmhouse one from Dollar Tree
- Foam board (you could also use cardboard)
- Mod Podge
- Twine for hanging (optional)
- Faux pine or Holly and berry (optional for decoration)
- Glue Gun
- Paint brush
How to Turn a Dollar Tree Gift Bag into a Christmas Window Frame
Paint the picture frames
If your frames are not already black or dark brown, you’ll want to paint them first to get the same white farmhouse-y effect I have going on here. Using a dry brush technique, paint the frames white. If you’re not familiar with this technique, it’s basically just taking a dry paint brush, getting a thin amount of paint on it and brushing it back and forth in short brush strokes to get a streaky uneven application. Trust me, I am not a fancy painter and if I can successfully pull off this look, so can you!
Prepare the gift bag
Cut the front of the gift bag whatever size you need to fill your frames. If your gift bag is double sided, make sure to save the other side so that you can get another project out of it.
Cut the foam board backing
Trace the shape and size of your cut out gift bag onto the foam board, and cut it out. It’s easier to do this with an X-acto knife than scissors, but be careful they are super sharp!
Mod Podge the gift bag to the foam board
Apply a generous amount of Mod Podge to the foam board and spread it over the entire surface using a paint brush. Lay the gift bag on top press firmly, smoothing the surface as you go from the center out towards the edges. I find that a rolling pin helps to get this step done easily.
Glue the picture frame window to the foam board
Arrange the 4 picture frames onto gift bag surface before gluing them each into place to ensure they all line up and fit properly. Then, one at a time, use a glue gun to secure the frames to the surface of the gift bag.
Add some greenery, holly and/or berry as decoration
You can add the greenery on the top, side, wherever you think it looks best. I played around with it a bit and with a few different kinds of greenery until I landed on this, which I think looked the best.
How stinkin’ cute is this Dollar Tree Farmhouse Gift Bag Window scene!? You could even keep it super simple and stick this adorable Farm Animal image right into a regular frame and throw that bad boy up in the wall!
I’m not a huge Farmhouse style fan, I prefer lots of fun vibrant colors in my home, but this Cow, Pig, and Sheep totally stole my heart!
