This Dollar Tree wooden vintage truck has been in my craft stash for as long as I can remember, and I’ve wanted to make it over into a DIY Sunflower Truck for just as long! The Vintage Truck Decor has been trendy forever and I don’t think they’re going out of style anytime soon. Another reason why I love this Dollar Tree Sunflower Truck DIY!
I’ve been holding on to this Dollar Tree wooden truck for waaaayyyy too long. I knew that I wanted to make it into a sunflower truck, but I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted it to look so I just kept putting it off. Until now!
I started making an entire collection of Sunflower crafts and decor this year, and it’s going to take me a WHILE to get them all up on the blog, but you’ve gotta start somewhere right?!
How cute does this truck look next to that fantabulous Paint Stick Ladder we made in The CRafterparty!?
So far I’ve got my Dollar Tree Sunflower Gnome on here, my Fabric Sunflower Mason Jar, and now this Dollar Tree Sunflower Truck, so were off to a good start. Make sure to keep checking back, or head over to my Facebook page to check out the other 20 plus Sunflower crafts I’ve made this year.
Can I just tell you how much I am obsessed with Sunflowers?! I have OSD…..Obsessive Sunflower Disorder. I enjoy them year round, don’t get me wrong, but I reallllllyy think they are a true sign that Summer is on it’s way. If there is any way at all to work a Sunflower into one of my crafts, then trust me I’m gonna do it. #SunflowerLover

How to Makeover a Dollar Tree Wooden Truck into a Sunflower Truck
I made this adorable Dollar Tree Sunflower Truck on video, so you can WATCH the step by step tutorial on YouTube HERE or click on the picture right below.
First things first, paint the entire wooden truck all black.
Next, paint the rails of the wooden truck bed white.
Then, using a spouncer, cover the entire sunflower truck in yellow polka dots. You can do these as big or as small as you like and you can do as many or as few as you like (or you could do more whimsy swirly freehand polka dots).
I did two coats of the polka dots to make them nice and bold yellow. Glue a mini paper sunflower to the center of each truck tire. It should look something like this when you’re done.
Mod Podge the mini Dollar Tree calendar print to the door of the truck. You could use any type of free print or image, it doesn’t have to be the calendar print!
Now it’s time to prepare our background. Start by covering the entire thing with the Antique Wax, and then wiping dry with a baby wipe or paper towel.
I didn’t quite like the sold dark brown, so I decided to take a chip brush and dry brush white paint over the top.
Now to glue the faux sunflower heads and greenery into the bed of the truck. I placed the truck on top and then arranged them how I liked them, and then removed the truck and glued them all down.
I had to cut the heads off of the small ones, and re-glue them face forward so that they sat right in the bed of the truck and so that they faced forward, not up.
Now, glue the truck back down to the wooden frame, so it looks like the sunflowers are being carried in the truck!
To make the burlap pendant banner, I first traced 6-7 triangles onto the burlap and then cut them out. I then glued them to a piece of twine.
Then I glued the burlap pendant banner to the top of the bed of the truck.
Make a long black dotted swirly line coming out of the truck bed for the path of the bee, and then glue a rhinestone bee to the end of the line.
Last but not least, I made a twine hanger with just 5 wood beads on each side. I thought a full wood bead hanger would be too much and it would take away from the project.
Glue the twine wood bead hanger to the back of the wooden frame, and reinforce it with a half of a popsicle stick. This project is a tad heavy, so you definitely want to reinforce that hanger!
Cute right!?
