Step out of the Orange and Black box and into the rainbow this Halloween with a colorful, fun, and easy to make DIY Dollar Tree Trick or Treat Coffin. It’s just the right amount of spooky, and just the right amount of cute! Can be made on a budget too!
I’m not gonna lie, I’m definitely guilty of buying *all the Dollar Tree Cutouts* and then never actually crafting with them. So this Halloween, I set out on a mission to NOT buy anything new, and to craft with all of the things I’ve bought in previous years!
And I cannot believe I waited so long because this Dollar Tree Trick or Treat Coffin came out fantabulous! So if you have one of these wood coffins in your stash, it’s time to dig her out and put her to good use.
Leave it to Manda Panda to do it totally out of the ordinary and completely abandon the traditional Orange and Black. Nope not me, I chose to make this Dollar Tree Coffin none other than RAINBOW!
I’m so here for it. And I hope you are too!
And can we talk about that Manda Messy Bow!? It’s rainbow. It’s gargantuan. It’s messy. It’s ME!

How to Dollar Tree Trick or Treat Coffin for Halloween
I made this Dollar Tree Wood Coffin on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
I went back and forth on whether to paint the Trick or Treat Coffin black and do the background white, or visa versa. But ultimately I ended up landing on doing the coffin white.
So first things first, get the wood coffin painted all white with a good 2 coats of paint.
Then paint your entire wood background solid black.
Next, cut small pieces of colored scrapbook paper to put behind each of the word/design cutouts. Of course, I chose various rainbow color, and then hot glued them behind each cutout. My version of rainbow uses PINK instead of RED (The Lisa Frank Rainbow!)
I gave it a bit of a Halloween-y spooky feel by taking my Tim Holtz distressed ink, ad rubbing it all around the outer edge of the Dollar Tree Wood Coffin.
Once everything is all dry, glue your wood coffin to the black background, leaving room at the top for the huge messy bow.
Speaking of Messy Bow, let’s make one! I actually had this rainbow bow made from a Bow Making Workshop that we did inside The CRafterparty, my VIP crafty fun subscription group. So all I did was slap that bad boy on with some hot glue.
Making a messy bow is easy tho! Just cut various strips of ribbon and fabric about 8″ long, and then layer them on top of each other in an X formation. Use a zip tie around the center and pull super tight and then fluff, fluff, fluff ’til you love it!
I turned this bow from regular messy to Halloween messy by adding a pair of foam bones in an X right on top front and center.
I’m so in love with how this Dollar Tree Rainbow Coffin turned out! I think it looks just fabulous with the Dollar Tree Ghost with BOO Banner!
Oh, how could I forget! Glue on a purple gem spider to the bottom for extra cute creepiness.
