Teal Checks, a messy bow, some cute butterflies, and some Dollar Tree supplies come together to make this easy and affordable DIY Happy Home Shelf Sitter that will make your home decor look just like it says….HAPPY!
I have this thing for the color Teal and yellow. It started with my obsession with Sunflowers, then the teal color sprinkled itself in, and next thing I knew my entire dining area was teal and sunflower galore!
This Happy Home Shelf Sitter doesn’t necessarily have any sunflowers in it, but it does have the teal and yellow theme I love so much.
I love this one because its light and colorful enough for Spring, it’s bright and sunny enough for Summer, but it’s down to earth enough to be used year round too. It’s really a classic!
And doesn’t it look just fabulous with the Paint Stick Butterfly we made in my VIP subscription group, The CRafterparty!?
Let’s not forget about the decorative touch with the Digital Deco Designs rice paper. See those teal checks? YES! Thats rice paper and if you haven’t crafted with it before, than you are missing out my friend.

How to Make a Happy Home Shelf Sitter
I made this Happy Home Shelf Sitter on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
First things first, get that entire board painted all Teal. I used Apple Barrel Key West. Then I took a bit of Antique Wax and brushed it all around the edges to grunge it up a little bit and give it a distressed look.
Next, trace the top and the side edges onto the Teal checks rice paper and cut that out. Then Mod Podge each piece to the top and both sides.
I cut the saying “Happy Home” on my Cricut, and then applied that to the board. I decided to use two different fonts to give it more interest, and I love how it turned out. If you don’t have a cricut, you can easily use a stencil and paint the words on, or you could buy wood letters and then paint those and glue them on.
I did the word “Happy” in a script font called “Montana”.
And I did the word “Home” in a non-script font called “Farmhouse”.
I painted a couple of small wood butterfly cutouts with Apple Barrell “Golden Sunset” paint, and then glued one to the top right of the Home.
Now, to make a big beautiful messy fabric bow I used my Bowdabra, but you definitely don’t need one to make a bow. I just coffee stained a bunch of coordinating fabric, and then ripped it into strips to make my bow. I added some excelsior for extra fun and messy decoration, and then glued another yellow butterfly to the center of my bow.
I added one more butterfly to the bottom left of the word “Happy” for good measure.
Here it is all put together, big bow, butterflies, Happy Home, and all!
I am SOOOOOO super happy with how this turned out! It looks just adorbs with the rest of my Sunflower Bee Decor, especially my Tiered Tray!
