Can you believe the Fourth of July is right around the corner? Well that means one thing around here and that’s Red, White and Blue kids crafts galore! Put those empty toilet paper tube rolls to good use with this Patriotic kids recycled craft. With only a few supplies, and about 15 minutes, this American Flag Paper Roll Windsock is sure to be a hit!
I have, no joke, an entire garbage bag full of empty toilet paper rolls. And not because they are actually garbage and need to be thrown out. Toilet paper rolls are little nuggets of craft gold in this house!
I saw a cute little 4th of July windsock while scrolling away on Amazon the other day, and I immediately thought of my bag of toilet paper rolls. It’s as if those Red, White, and Blue windsocks were just meant to be made out of toilet paper rolls! Or maybe it’s just because we had just made this super cute Toilet Paper Roll Rainbow Windsock, and I had windsocks on the brain.
Either way, this Patriotic Paper Roll craft is super fun and easy to make and only requires a few supplies which you may already have at home.
My Twins loved making this American Flag Toilet Paper Roll Windsock, and loved watching the red and white streamers blowing in the wind on our front porch. This simple recycled kids craft makes the perfect craft to celebrate the Fourth of July.

How to Make a Red, White, and Blue American Flag Toilet Paper Roll Windsock craft
Follow the below easy steps to make a Patriotic Toilet Paper Roll Windsock for the 4th of July.
Paint the toilet paper roll blue
We painted 2 coats to get a nice bright blue. Make sure to allow the paint to fully dry before moving on to the next step.
Paint white stars on the toilet paper roll
We used stencils to paint the white stars on, but if you have artistic ability (unlike myself and I’m also a perfectionist), you can just paint them on freehand. Make sure that the blue paint is completely dry before painting the white stars or else you will end up with light blue stars instead.
Cut the red and white streamers into strips and glue together at one end to make the stripes of the flag
Cut 3 strips of each color, about a foot long. Lay them out and overlap them just a bit alternating red and white. Glue them together at one end like the above picture. You could also glue them to the tube individually, but I thought this way seemed easier.
Glue the red and white streamers onto the inside of the toilet paper roll
We used a glue stick for this step to keep the mess under control!
Glue the string to the top of the toilet paper roll to hang
We used a dab of hot glue and glued the ribbon to the inside top of the toilet paper roll, but you could always punch holes on each side and tie string to hang as well.
Display the American Flag Toilet Paper Roll Windsock for all to see and show your Patriotic Pride!

Have you ever felt like there just isn’t enough time in the day to get down and crafty with the kiddos? I used to feel the same until I started using this handy little craft project planner I created. I want you to be able to Make Time To Make Stuff with your kiddos too, so for a limited time I am pulling the planner off of my Etsy store and giving it to anyone who joins our community for FREE!
Until Next Time…
