This super easy DIY Patriotic Clothespin Wreath is just in time for the Fourth of July! For as beautiful as this wreath is, you’d be surprised to hear that it is actually quite simple to make! The best part of this Red, White, and Blue Clothespin Wreath is that you can get all of the supplies at Dollar Tree, making it cheap AND easy!
I have been meaning to make an American Flag Clothespin Wreath, but it wasn’t until my good friend Jessie gave me a swift kick in the butt to actually get one done.
DIY Clothespin Wreaths are the -ish right now. I just finished this bright and cheerful Summer Sunflower Clothespin Wreath, so this Patriotic bad boy was next on the list.
Now there are a few different ways of coloring the clothespins when making a DIY wreath. I spent, no joke, an entire day testing out different methods of coloring clothespins and I typically swear by dyeing them with RIT dye. This Fourth of July clothespin wreath is an exception to my rule for one reason: THE WHITE. You can’t dye clothespins white (do they even make white dye?).
In an effort to uncomplicate this super easy Stars and Stripes Clothespin Wreath, I decided I’d just paint all the colors.  There is either spray painting or hand painting and trust me when I say spray painting is the lesser of two evils (I still think dyeing them with RIT dye is the winner and if you would rather dye the red and blue clothespins than you can check out the best way to dye them here).
I used 80 total clothespins to make this wreath, and if you follow the same pattern I did, you will use the same. The possibilities for how to clip the clothespins on the wreath are endless, so don’t let this DIY Clothespin Wreath tutorial limit your creativity! If you do plan to mix it up, and perhaps add another layer of clothespins to the wreath form, just make sure to plan for that and paint extra clothespins.
Don’t let this 4th of July Clothespin Wreaths beauty fool you, it is one of the easiest pieces of DIY decor I’ve made, and it takes zero crafting talent to do! If you are one of those “I am so not crafty” type of people, I guarantee you will find this DIY American Flag Clothespin Wreath tutorial a huge confidence booster!

How to Make a DIY Fourth of July Patriotic Clothespin Wreath
Follow the below easy steps to make a beautiful and simple DIY Patriotic Clothespin Wreath. Remember, you can mix it up with color and style and make it your own and the below basic steps will still apply.
Spray paint the clothespins red, white, and blue
Lay the clothespins out on a large piece of cardboard or plastic and apply 2 coats of paint to each side, allowing to fully dry between each coat. Once they have all been painted red, white, and blue, lay out in the sun to dry for about 15 minutes on each side. Here are the number of each color clothespins you will need to make this wreath:
- Red – 28
- Blue- 20
- White – 32
I would suggest painting a couple extra of each color so you have some wiggle room. Alternatively, you could dye the clothespins with RIT dye, although I don’t believe that’s an option for the white.
Spray paint the wooden stars white
Apply 2 coats of paint to each side, allowing to fully dry in between.
Pin the blue clothespins to the first section of the wire wreath form
Starting with the first section, pin a blue clothespin onto the two inner layers of the wire form. Next pin another blue clothespin onto the middle two wire layers. Then blue on the inner row, blue on the middle two.
Continue this pattern until you covered the first section of the wire wreath form.
Pine the red and white clothespins to the remaining sections of the wire wreath form
Use the same pattern of middle two/inner two and pin 4 red and then 4 white clothespins. Then 4 red, 4 white, and so on.
Alternate red and white all the way around the wreath form. Once you have covered the entire wreath form in clothespins it should look something like this…
Hot glue the white stars to the blue clothespins
You can stagger them as I did, or you can line them up. You can also use more stars that are smaller. Get creative!
Hot glue the American Flag “In God We Trust” Star sign to the center of the wreath from the back
Flip the wreath around and use plenty of hot glue to secure the sign across the top backside of the clothespins. It helps if you hold it in place and see what it looks like from the front first, before securing it with glue.
Hang your wreath to show your American Pride!
You can hang the the outer wire rim right on a nail so you don’t even have to add string to hang.
Get ready for others to start asking you where you bought your Patriotic Clothespin Wreath. For as cheap and easy as this clothespin wreath is to make, it comes out just beautiful!
Once you have successfully followed this DIY Clothespin tutorial, you’ll be able to make one in any theme you can dream up. You can make one for every occasion, like this “Hello” Sunflower Clothespin Wreath we made to welcome the beginning of summer!
