Show your American pride while at the same time putting those old blue jeans to good use, with this Patriotic Red, White, and Blue Jeans windsock. This windsock can be made with mostly recycled materials, and it’s easy enough for the Kiddos to help, making this an affordable 4th of July DIY Win!
Windsocks are the most underrated pieces of decor in modern day society! Ok that may be a bold claim, but a cute patriotic windsock blowing in the breeze, hanging from your front porch can make all the difference!
Celebrate the July Fourth Holiday, while showing your good ‘ole American Pride with this fun and easy DIY Patriotic Windsock. It’s a 4th of July DIY- Hey that rhymed! This is basically the Adult version of the Patriotic Toilet Paper Roll Windsock that me and the kiddos made last year, so if you’re looking for an ultra kid-friendly version, make sure to check that one out.
This Americana craft is also an excellent way to use up some of those ribbon and fabric scraps that you have laying around in your stash. Not to mention those Blue Jeans that no longer fit! Hopefully because you lost so much weight, and not gained like me LOL. Can we say #Covid15 (Lbs)? Well, at least my jeans got put to good crafting use with both this Windsock and the Scrap Fabric Rag Flag too!

Time needed: 30 minutes
How to Make an American Flag Patriotic Windsock from a Pair of Old Blue Jeans
- Cut off the bottom part of one leg of the blue jeans.
I cut off about 8″, but in hindsight I would have made it a bit shorter, maybe 6″ or so.
- Using a star stencil and white paint, make stars all over the blue jeans.
You can freehand this if you’d like, but I have zero drawing ability so I used a stencil so they actually looked like stars and not blobs.
- Cut several various strips of red and white ribbon and/or fabric, and glue them to the inside bottom of the blue jeans.
We also glued a piece of white zig-zag trim to the top of the blue jeans to give it a little more of a finished look.
- Glue a piece of white string to the top to hang.
