This Dollar Tree Red Cardinal Sled is one DT makeover you are not going to want to miss. This DIY Christmas Decor is made with a gorgeous rice paper printable with a vintage feel that is gonna make you want to keep it up year round!
If you see one of these Wooden Sleds at Dollar Tree you are definitely going to want to grab one to makeover! I have made over not one, but TWO of these babies and I am so in love with both!
Not only did I make over two of these sleds, but both of them were with Digital Deco Designs printables. Last year I made it into a Vintage Santa Sled, and this year I went with Cardinals.
Ever since I discovered printables from Cathy at Digital Deco Designs I have been literally obsessed. I’m telling ya, go check them out for yourself and I dare you to not get addicted!
The print I ended up going with was “Cardinal Woods”, which I thought was just perfect for this project!
I have the digital download subscription, so I download and print them onto rice paper at home from my regular printer, but she offers print and ship as well for those that may not have a printer. Either way, once you start Mod Podging rice paper, you can’t stop!

How to Makeover a Dollar Tree Sled with a Red Cardinal Printable
I made this a Red Cardinal Dollar Tree Sled on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
First you’ll need to paint the entire front of the sled white, to cover up the snowmen image on the front. I left the bottom and the top poles (Legs? I don’t know what they are called) brown, because they we’re already the perfect color to go along with my print.
Once that was dry, I Mod Podged the Cardinal rice paper print front and center. Isn’t it beautiful!?
I then sanded off all the excess rice paper using my handy Gator sander which is perfect for getting in small spaces.
Next, I added some Faux greenery picks, and some red and gold glitter branches to the top leaving a gap in the middle for a simple shoestring style bow.
The picks looked like the below, and I just put one on each side, with the skinny ends of the picks facing inwards.
My red and white striped ribbon was too clean and bright, so I dirtied it up with some antique wax before making it into a super simple bow. Then I glued a Totally Dazzled bling to the center and added it to my arrangement on the top of the Dollar Tree Wooden Sled to finish it off!
The DT Wooden Sled already came with a twine hanger so Just used that since it was just perfect. I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the red cardinal print by adding a complicated hanger like a wood bead hanger.
How absolutely adorable does this Red Cardinal Dollar Tree Sled look with that Merry sign? That one is also made with Digital Deco Designs!
