Summer and Sunflowers, and Bees OH My! If you’re looking for a bright and cheerful way to style your tiered tray this summer with all handmade decor, you’ve come to the right place. If this Sunflower Bee 3 Tiered Tray doesn’t give you all the Summer vibes, I don’t know what will!
Last Summer I made a vow to decorate all of my seasonal tiered trays with 100% handmade crafts and DIY’s. So, after I made the tray itself, I set out on a mission to do just that. It started with my Fall handmade tiered tray, then Christmas, Valentines, and here we are back at Summer with this gorgeous Sunflower and Bumblebee styled tray!
Tiered Trays come in alllll sorts of shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. But leave it to Manda Panda Projects to add as many bright colors as possible. And of course……SUNFLOWERS! I just can’t believe it took me a whole year to style a Sunflower (and Bee) handmade tiered tray.
I really wasn’t a huge Bumblebee decor fan, but they just go oh so well with the Sunflowers. I really wanted the Sunflowers to be the main focus, and the Bees to just compliment them. This wasn’t intended to be a “Bee tray”, and I think I pulled it off nicely! Add the rustic flair with the tray itself, and you got yourself a match made in sunflower decor heaven!
If you’re following along on Facebook, you probably saw me make many of the pieces you see here live. If it’s handmade and on this tiered tray, then there is a tutorial for it. (and if you’re not following me, you totally should be)
The only things I did NOT make are some of the little filler pieces like the mini mugs from Hobby Lobby because they were just too cute not to add, the little salt and pepper shakers, and the absolutely adorable mini sunflower vintage tea set that was sent to me in Happy Mail. The Sunflower Gnome IS handmade, but not by me, it was also sent in Happy Mail from one of my crafty Facebook friends.

Handmade Crafts for a Summer Sunflower and Bee Themed Tiered Tray
I decorated this beautiful Rustic Handmade Sunflower 3 Tiered Tray on a Facebook Live video, so you can WATCH me decorate it HERE or click on the picture right below.
I have no rhyme or reason to how I decorated my Sunflower and Bee themed Tiered Tray. I know there are some decorating “rules” you are supposed to follow, but honestly, I’ve never been one to follow those rules! I’m a #CraftyRebel.
First things first, you need to start with a clean slate and take EVERYTHING off of your tray. Then I get out everything that I plan to use, so that I have it all right there in front of me.
Then, I just start by putting the largest items on first, and filling it in with the smaller items, and lastly any filler pieces.
While I am putting things on I start to move them around until I like how it looks. It takes a bit of tweaking and tinkering until you get it just right, but in the end you are left with something uh-maz-ing. One trick I have is to use little round wood discs to use as risers to create some height on things in the back. It makes a world of difference.
Let’s start from the Top! Of course we want the Sunflower Floating Teacup to be front and center. It also wouldn’t fit on any of the other tiers. There are only 2 things on this entire tray that there is no public tutorial for, and that is the Teacup and the Foam Dice Bumblebee. Those were both made in my private subscription crafting group, The CRafterparty. Everything else was made live right on my Facebook page.
Next to the Floating Teacup we have the adorable Wood Bead Flowers. These were a total hit! The mini vintage tea set was NOT handmade, obviously, but it was sent to me in Happy Mail and it was too cute not to display on top! The Bee Wood Bead Garland, which was made with the same set of beads, is the perfect filler to top off our top tier!
Moving down to the second Tier (perhaps my fave tier). In the back we have the mini BEE HAPPY tiered tray pillow. This little pillow is small enough to fit on my tray, yet large enough to be used as stand alone decor as well. The buffalo check in the pillow coordinates perfectly with the square Sunflower and Buffalo Check sitter right next to it, doesn’t it?
Moving forward towards the right we have the super simple BEE KIND Heart Block, that despite my messy handwriting, turned out absolutely adorbs. It’s the perfect compliment to the Mini Sunflower Bee Ladder that’s front and center leaning up against the center spindle.
I didn’t want to obstruct the view of the mini ladder too much, so right in front was the perfect spot for the Mini Jenga Block bookstack! It’s little enough that you can fully see the ladder, but big enough to occupy that front and center space (cute enough for that spot too!).
I finished this tier off on the left with a little jewelery ring dish that I got at a thrift store, and inside of it I draped the mini Sunflower Wood Bead Garland, along with the precious little Bee Fence with Mini Wreath.
Moving right along and on down to the bottom and final tier. I like my Tiered Trays jam packed and full of items, and this Summer Sunflower Tiered Tray is no exception. With that being said, it’s a little difficult to get good photos of each of the items, especially the ones in the back, so I’ll throw in some better pics of the back items where I can.
I’ll start from the front on this tier with the cutest and miniest thing in the world….the Honey Pot! No Sunflower and Bee tray is complete without a Bee Hive and a Honey Pot, so I put those 2 front and center so they wouldn’t get missed.
Moving over to the left, is the Sunflower Gnome that was sent to me in Happy Mail, so there is no tutorial for that one. But doesn’t he look just adorable next to the Sunflower and Bee Gnome House on the left of him?
Behind the Gnome house is a project that looks like it came straight outta Hobby Lobby! The “Don’t Worry Bee Happy” Crackle paint shelf sitter. This is what happens when you combine the crackle paint technique with decoupaging a napkin! Here is a pic of that one when I had it in better view on the middle tier (I did some rearranging a few times to get the tray just right)
Moving right along next to that on the right is the “Buzz” Honeycomb Sitter. I found this shaped decor at Dollar Tree and instantly thought….”Honeycomb!”
Last, but certainly not least on the far right of the tray is the Foam Dice Bumblebee!
I almost forgot our Honeycomb Ribbon Wand all the way over to the left! This is more of a “filler piece” that adds some umph without taking up too much room. You can see it in the below pic, but you can’t see the black and white striped cup it’s sitting in, because it’s tucked behind the Gnome House.
Anywhere you see some empty spaces, fill them in with little trinkets and DooDads. I like to get them at thrift stores like mini salt and pepper shakers and mini cups and mugs. I made some fabric flowers that I set in some empty spots too. Take a look at what you have in your stash, get creative and fill that tray up!
