Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with this Thrift Store Etched Christmas Mirror. This $7 gorgeous gold framed thrifted mirror was upcycled into beautiful DIY Christmas Decor with some Armour Etching Cream and the results are STUNNING!
I LOVE Hobby Lobby. I mean, who doesn’t!? But I don’t always love Hobby Lobby prices!
My sister sent me a pic of this Etched Christmas Mirror that she got from there and I was stunned by how gorgeous it was! It was $75, but she got it half off (because who honestly pays full price at HL anyway?). Not TOO too bad but I knew that I could recreate it for cheaper!
I actually forgot about it for awhile and I wasn’t actively looking for mirrors at the thrift store, but when I saw the perfect mirror I scooped it up and got to work on etching it.
The mirror itself is definitely not quite as amazing as the Hobby Lobby one, but for $7 I’ll take it ($14.99 but it was half off, so technically $7.50).
I’ll tell ya one thing I learned is that decor mirrors are hard as heck to get pictures of! I did my best, but it’s really hard to capture the true essence and beauty because there is either a glare, or you can see my reflection.
You would laugh at me if you watched what I did to get decent pics. I had to hold a black pillow in front of me so that the etched words would show up, and you wouldn’t see a reflection of my legs. It was a sight to see. LOL!
I made the actual stencil myself with my Cricut, and I since I’ve been on vacation I haven’t had a chance to mess around to see how I can share the SVG file with you, but you can buy the physical stencil itself from my shop by ordering a “Custom Vinyl Word Cutout” HERE. You would choose 12″ word and the customization would say “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” Stencil. I will know what you are referring to!

How to Etch a Thrift Store Christmas Mirror with Armour Etch Cream
I made this Thrift Store Etched Christmas Mirror on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
My thrift store mirror was FILTHY when I bought it, so the first thing I did was take an old toothbrush and some dish soap and water and scrub the dirt out of the grooves on the frame. I mean, it was legit dirt like the mirror had been buried!
Next, windex the heck out of the mirror part so you’re starting with a clean and clear surface that the Armour Etch can work with.
If you’re making your own stencil, you will just cut the words onto any color vinyl and then “reverse weed” them.
I just used the Text feature in Cricut Design Space and combined 2 fonts from Dafont.com, “Farmhouse” for the regular font and “Clarissa” for the script font. Then I made a bunch of “circle” shapes in all different sizes to make the “snow”. It was a little bit tedious and there is almost certainly a better way of doing it, but it worked for me.
Once I have the chance to figure out how to share an SVG with you I will, but in the meantime you can purchase the physical stencil itself from my shop. Choose “12 in long- Customization “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas””.
Here is what the stencil looks like once it all been weeded, or if you order it from my shop it will come like this with transfer tape.
Take the transfer tape, and lay it over the top of the entire stencil and then transfer the stencil to your mirror, making sure it’s laid perfectly flat with no air bubbles at all.
Then, take a paint brush and brush your Armour Etch cream all over the words and the “snow” on the stencil, dabbing it on super thick making sure to cover every inch of the words.
I don’t follow the directions on the back of the Armour Etch exactly, I leave the cream on for about 10 minutes or longer (bottle says 1-3 min) and I have had fabulous results. Some people leave on overnight!
After about 10 minutes, wipe the excess Armour Etch cream back into the bottle with your paint bursh, then wipe the mirror and stencil clean with a baby wipe or wet paper towel.
Then remove the stencil, and bring the entire mirror over to the sink and rinse with water. Don’t be alarmed if it looks like it didn’t work when the mirror is wet! Once it’s dried the Etched words will show up just fine. (I got super scared when I got mine wet at first).
I am SO incredibly in love with how this gorgeous Thrift Store Etched Christmas Mirror turned out!
Hobby Lobby copycat Christmas decor for the win!
This is not the first time I did a Hobby Lobby copycat, I made an adorable Easter Bunny Copycat decor last spring as well and it was also super cute.
