This Thrift Store Framed Sign was pretty cute as is, but with a sunflower rice paper print and some chippy teal paint, you can make it over into a gorgeous statement piece for your DIY home decor! Thrift flip for the win!
When I saw this gorgeous yellow frame at my local Thrift Store, it immediately yelled “Amanda, take me and craft with me!” My first thought was that it looked like the frame on the front door of Monicas apartment in Friends! #IYKYK
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it LOL! But, once I got my hands on it, I remade it into something wayyyy cuter than the ‘Friends frame’.
If you know me, then you know I’m obsessed with Digital Deco Designs! She makes gorgeous rice paper printables that you can either download and print at home, or you can have them printed and shipped to you. I print them right at home and it’s a total game changer.
Recently she made an entire Sunflower Bundle that is Out.Of.This.World.
The particular print that I chose for this Thrift Store Clock Makeover is “Bee a Sunflower 2“, but don’t worry I used “a different one “Bee a Sunflower 1” to makeover a Thrift Store Clock, so you’ll have inspo for both of the “Bee a Sunflower” prints!

How to Makeover a Thrift Store Framed Sign
I made this Thrift Store Frame on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
This was a super easy one to makeover since I didn’t even have to paint the frame. It was already the perfect color yellow, I just added some Antique Wax to the edges and around it to dirty and grunge it up and give it a more distressed look.
For the background, I ALMOST kept the Chevron, but ultimately decided to pull the Teal out of the print by making the background Teal. But since I wanted to preserve the chevron I didn’t first paint over it. I decided to do the chippy technique so that you can see it peek through.
To do chippy, cover the entire background surface with a layer of candle wax. Any type of wax will do! Just rub it over the top.
Then paint the teal over top the candle wax.
Once it’s dried, take a piece of packing tape and “chip” it by laying the tape down on top of the paint, pressing it down firmly, and then pulling it up. Repeat the process all over the background as much as you want until you get the desired look!
Mod Podge the “Bee a Sunflower 2” rice paper print to the center of the thrifted frame.
As easy as that, we have a gorgeous Thrift Store Framed Sign!
I have it on my front door here, but I think it will live right on my living room wall in the future.
