How to Make a Thrift Store Pepper Grinder Bee
I made this Thrifted Pepper Grinder Bee on video. So you can WATCH the tutorial by clicking below.
Start by painting the entire wood pepper grinder with 2 coats of yellow paint.
Then, paint the entire “head” black and then black stripes on the entire “body”. I intentionally did not reload my brush with paint often since I wanted my bee to have that distressed vibe. Also, this helped so that I didn’t have to worry about my lines being perfectly straight. After painting you can use a sanding block to distress it even more if you like.
After it’s all painted, grunge the body up with some Antique wax (if you want to).
To make the wings, shape wired jute into an oblong heart type shape, and then twist the ends together to close them and hold them together.
Hot glue them to the upper back of the Queen Bees body.
Make a small hangtag by ripping a piece of kraft paper and stamping “Bee Happy” onto it with small acrylic stamps. I also grunged the tag up with some wax.
Tie it onto the top of the wing with some twine and a shoestring bow, and add a couple of small sunflower embellishments.
Same concept for the antenna’s….just shape the wired jute into the antenna shape and glue a small black pom pom to the end of each. Then glue them the top of the Pepper Grinder Bee “head”.
Take a mini laser cut crown and rub some Antique Gold Rub n’ Buff on it, and glue it to the Bees head in front of the antenna’s.
Of course we had to add a bow! I made a bow with my Bowdabra using strips of coordinating yellow and black and white fabric. You definitely don’t NEED a Bowdabra to make a cute bow, but I do love mine and use it every day!
Glue the bow to the pepper grinder just under the wings, and off to the left slightly. Glue a silk sunflower head to the center for extra cuteness.
