One of the most charming Valentines Day color combos is hot pink and black, making this XOXO Napkin Shelf Sitter a 10 when it comes to Valentines DIY crafts and decor! This napkin decoupage project is affordable, easy to make, and I just LOVE how it turned out. No pun intended!
I am napkin obsessed. It’s an addiction really. Which is exactly why I started my napkin subscription, The Big Pack of Crafkins. It’s not currently open for new members, but you can get on the waitlist to join here!
The BPC is a quarterly pack of adorable napkins sent straight to your door, so that you never have to buy entire packs of napkins ever again!
You get a variety of 18 individual napkins, so you can enjoy more napkins for less cost of buying 18 packs, AND your not left with a bazillion leftover napkins that you don’t know what to do with!
If you haven’t napkin crafted before, you’re in for a treat! It’s very similar to decoupaging rice paper, but napkins are of course thinner. This project actually combined BOTH rice paper and napkin decoupage.
The XOXO is a napkin, but the sides are black and white check rice paper from Digital Deco Designs.
I have the digital download subscription, so I download and print them onto rice paper at home from my regular printer, but she offers print and ship as well for those that may not have a printer. Either way, once you start Mod Podging rice paper, you can’t stop!

How to Make an XOXO Napkin Shelf Sitter
I made this XOXO Shelf Sitter on video, so you can WATCH it or click on the picture right below.
First things first, paint the entire wood box frame all white.
Then separate your napkin into 1 ply and cut it to fit inside your box frame. Mod Podge that baby right into the frame. You can use saran wrap to smooth out the wrinkles, or a Brayer works great too!
Next, let’s do the sides buffalo check. Trace the side of the frame onto the Black and White Check paper, and cut 4 pieces out (you can do just 3 since you won’t see the bottom, but I decided to do all 4 sides.)
Mod Podge the rice paper to each side, and then sand off the excess paper with a sanding sponge.
Paint 4 half wood beads metallic silver, and hot glue one to each corner.
Make a tiny black and white bakers twine shoestring bow, and glue it to the top of the silver heart.
Look at all this cuteness! There is just something about hot pink with black and white that is so sexy and fun! Yes, I just used the word sexy to describe my craft project LOL!
