Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy is the only way to describe this little Dollar Tree DIY! Lemon decor is *all the rage* right now and cute pieces are actually hard to find in stores. But why buy it, when you can make it in 15 minutes or less! This Dollar Tree Lemon napkin makes for the cutest little shelf sitter, and only costs a whopping $2 to make! Like I said….. Easy.Peasy.
Have you jumped on the lemon bandwagon yet? If not, what are you waiting for they are so stinkin’ cute! To be honest, I didn’t really care for them all that much until I did a #lunchtimelive Lemon Challenge over on Facebook last week. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t NOT like them, they just weren’t my fave or go to theme for crafts and decor.
The challenge, or as one of my awesome followers called it, The Lemon-Athon, was a full week of Facebook Lives that were done on my lunch break. Each one was super quick, easy, fun and CUTE, and all were Lemon theme and completed in 15-30 minutes. So at the end of the week we had 5 adorable Lemon crafts, all of which you could use to decorate your tiered tray this summer.

This Dollar Tree Lemon Napkin Shelf Sitter, or tiered tray sitter, was the kickoff of the Lemon-athon! This one is seriously super duper easy but don’t make the mistake I did and forget to pull the napkin plys apart! Dollar Tree napkins are usually 2 ply so you want to make sure to get it down to just the one before Mod Podging it onto the box frame.

Dollar Tree Supplies needed to make a Lemon Shelf Sitter
- Dollar Tree box frame
- Round Lemon napkins- (Amazon has a whole table set, but I couldn’t find just the napkins)
- Black and White cotton bakers twine
- Ribbon – I used lemon, buffalo check, yellow, and polka dot burlap
- White paint
- Glue Gun
- Mod Podge
- Sanding sponge
This entire project was made from Dollar Tree supplies, but I’ve linked to the closest thing on Amazon for you’re convenience. Of course it won’t be nearly as budget friendly though, so just keep that in mind!
How to Make a Lemon Napkin Shelf or Tiered Tray Sitter
I decoupaged this Dollar Tree Lemon Napkin Decor on video, so you can WATCH the step by step tutorial HERE or right below.
The video is a quickie to watch, but if you prefer written instructions I’ll describe how I made this Dollar Tree Lemon Napkin Shelf Sitter below. Just keep in mind that I don’t have detailed step-by-step photos because, well….it was made Live on video!
So to start you’ll want to go ahead and paint the entire box white. Don’t worry about full coverage or streaks since we’re going to Mod Podge the napkin on top of it, but make sure to get the sides as well.
Next you have to separate the 2 plys of the napkin so that you’re left with just the one thin layer.
Now you’re gonna apply a layer of Mod Podge on the top surface of the wooden box frame, and then gently lay the lemon napkin on top. Pat lightly and smooth out as many wrinkle as possible, but don’t worry about it being perfect. One trick to smooth them out is to lay a piece of saran wrap over the top, and then use something like a credit card to smooth over it. You can also get a nifty little roller tool called a Brayer, which works wonders but is not necessary.
Next, take a sanding sponge and sand off the extra lemon napkin from around the edges. Make sure to sand downward so that you don’t pull the napkin up off of the wood frame.
Let’s add some decorative cotton twine to tie it all together. Just glue one end of the black and white cotton bakers twine to the inside back of the frame, and wrap it around the bottom 2 or 3 times, and then glue the other end to secure.
Then do the same thing with the right or left side, so you have one going vertical and one going horizontal, intersecting at the bottom right or left corner.
Time to make a cute lil’ bow. Take 2 or 3 different coordinating ribbon and cut a few strips of each. Mine were about 4-5″ long, but don’t worry we can trim them up if we have to. Now layer them on top of each other in an “X” formation and tie a piece of string or twine around the center. That’s it!
Ain’t it cute?
