The chill in the air, the smell of the Pumpkin Spice, and you guessed it…Candy Corn, are all the tell tale signs that Autumn has arrived. With the turn of the season comes the change in decor, and this Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger is the perfect DIY to kick off the Fall season.
If you have been following my projects for any time now, than you know I am a huge pine cone fanatic. And I’m not just talking Christmas and Holiday pine cone crafts, I’m talking All.Year.Round.
I started this Fall/Halloween season with a Pine Cone Spooktakular. There were Mummies, and Witches, and Bat’s OH MY! But this time I decided to shift towards something more home decor-y. To get the deets on how I painted the Pine Cones to look like Candy Corn, you can read the full post here, but realllllly, I just slapped on some yellow, white, and orange paint and called it a day (oh and some glitter too).
As always, if you’re crafting with pine cones straight from Mother Nature, make sure to clean and prepare them first before crafting. I’m willing to bet you don’t want Daddy Long Legs crawling out of this super cute Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger!
If you aren’t lucky enough to live in an area where you can collect pine cones right in your own backyard, don’t worry you can buy them on Etsy, or even good ‘ol Amazon.

Supplies Needed to Make a Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger
I created this Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger from remnants in my craft stash, but I did my best to link to the closest thing on Amazon for your convenience. Most of the supplies I used came from good ‘ole Dollar Tree, so Amazon kind of defeats the Frugal Purpose, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
- Pine cones – Cleaned and prepared or store bought (3-5)
- Orange, Yellow, White paint
- Mesh Tubing
- Black and White buffalo check wired ribbon
- Fall leaf gold trim wired ribbon
- Thin black and white small check ribbon
- Orange burlap
- Mini pumpkin
- Faux leaf
- Orange and gold mesh
- Pipe cleaner
How to Make a Pine Cone Door Hanger for Fall
Follow the below easy steps to make a Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger
Paint the pine cones to look like a candy corn with white, yellow, and orange thirds.
I have a detailed post on exactly how I painted these and you can go here to read that.
Glue the mesh tubing to the top of each pine cone candy corn.
Once the mesh is attached to the pine cones, tie a knot at the ends, but stagger the lengths so that the pine cones are not all bunched up together.
Make the Bow
Start by making large loops of the Buffalo Check ribbon, about 10 inches across. So fold the ribbon over onto itself 2 times, creating 2 loops like in the below picture.
Fold the looped ribbon in half to find the middle, and cut a SMALL slit on both sides. Be very careful not to cut through the ribbon, the slit is just enough for the pipe cleaner to catch on to.
Take a pipe cleaner and wrap it around the center of the ribbon, sliding it into the notch on each side and twisting it to secure. Separate the loops and fluff to make a bow like the below pic (the pic below shows the autumn ribbon for this step).
Cut a small 4-5″ strip of both the deco mesh and the orange burlap. overlap one on top of the other and scrunch them together in the middle. Secure with a pipe cleaner.
Layer the bows on top of one another, orange mesh/burlap on the bottom, then buffalo check, and the fall ribbon on top and use the pipe cleaners to tie and secure them together.
Then tie a super simple shoestring bow with the thin Buffalo Check ribbon and glue it to the center along with a mini pumpkin on top. Glue a faux maple leaf to the top and you’ve got yourself a big ‘ole bow!
Bring it all together!
Now glue the knotted end of your mesh tubing attached to the pine cones to the bow to finish off your Pine Cone Candy Corn Door Hanger. You should also have some extra pipe cleaner hanging around the back that you can use to tie around the mesh tubing for extra security
Now you have a beautiful Nature (and Candy Corn) inspired door hanger to ring in the Fall season. Queue up the cozy sweater and pumpkin spice latte and have yourself a Fall Fiesta!
