Celebrate Halloween -Pine Cone Style – with this adorable kids nature craft! The Pine Cone Ghost is a fun and easy way to get in the spooky spirit and scare all of the goblins away!
Last week, when we made the Pine Cone Mummy, I made the executive decision to make this a 5 (or 6, or 7?) part Halloween Pine Cone Character series. I’ve made pine cone friends before, and trust me the tutorials get looooooong. Since I want to show you how to make each individual one, I decided to split them up into bite size pieces.
You can decide to make just this Pine Cone Ghost, or you can make an entire Pine Cone Halloween Army, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see what we craft up next! I do see a Witch in the near future, and it wouldn’t be Halloween without a Pumpkin. (*Update- we have since made a Bat, and a Pumpkin as well!)
I am beginning to sound like a broken record, but it wouldn’t be a pine cone craft tutorial without my cleaning disclaimer. If you’re whipping up these Halloween friends with pine cones you collected from the great outdoors, make sure to clean and prepare them first! That’s right, you’ve got to bake those bugs out.
I wrote a whole post on the exact steps I take to clean them, bake the bugs out, and as an added bonus leave you with beautifully bloomed cones. If you aren’t sure how to prepare them I’d suggest to check that out before getting started on this cute lil’ Pine Cone Ghost. That is, unless you like spiders in your crafts? It is after all a Halloween craft…!
If you aren’t lucky enough to live in an area where you can collect pine cones right in your own backyard, don’t worry you can buy them on Etsy, or even good ‘ol Amazon.

How to Make a Halloween Pine Cone Ghost
Follow the below easy steps to make a friendly Pine Cone Ghost!
Clean and prepare your pine cone
If you bought your pine cones, you can skip this step. If not, I already stressed the importance of baking those bugs out! You can find the steps to thoroughly clean and prepare your pine cones here.
Paint the Pine Cone White
You can either hand paint the pine cones, or spray paint them, but the latter is much quicker and easier. We spray painted this particular Pine Cone Ghost, but we have hand painted many cones in the past. I encourage you to use whatever you happen to have in your craft stash.
Cut the circle eyes and oval mouth out of the black felt
Glue the ghostly eyes and mouth onto the painted pine cone
Boo!
Now your Halloween Pine Cone Ghost can team up with his Pine Cone Mummy friend to scare all the ghosts and goblins away! Make sure to check back next week to find out which Halloween character is next in the series!
