With Halloween fast approaching, it’s time to get into the spooky spirit, and what better way than with a Halloween nature craft! This Pine Cone Mummy is so cute, he can’t possibly be scary though. A perfect holiday craft for the kids, and all you need is a few supplies!
Over in this house, we absolutely LOVE crafting with pine cones! I really couldn’t wait for it to be acceptably early enough to make the Pine Cone Halloween characters that I had in mind, and now that it is officially August I’d say it’s a go. Pine Cone Mummy- you’re up first!
We made these adorable Pine Cone Peeps for Easter, but pine cone crafts aren’t just for the holidays. If you love crafting with pine cones as much as we do, you will love the Pine Cone Barn Animals that can be made year round!
I will say the same thing that I always do when it comes to crafting with natures awesome little craft supply: MAKE SURE TO CLEAN AND PREPARE THEM FIRST! Let me say that one more time for the people in the back that may not have heard…if you are crafting with pine cones that you’ve collected from the great outdoors, please do not go right from nature to craft table without out taking these steps first.
I wrote a whole post on the exact steps I take to clean them, bake the bugs out, and as an added bonus leave you with beautifully bloomed cones. If you aren’t sure how to prepare them I’d suggest to check that out before getting started on this adorable Pine Cone Mummy. That is, unless you like spiders in your crafts? It is after all a Halloween craft…!
If you aren’t lucky enough to live in an area where you can collect pine cones right in your own backyard, don’t worry you can buy them on Etsy, or even good ‘ol Amazon.

How to Make a Halloween Pine Cone Mummy Craft
Follow the below easy steps to make a cute Halloween Pine Cone character!
Clean and prepare your pine cone for crafting
If you bought your pine cones, you can skip this step. If not, I already stressed the importance of baking those bugs out! You can find the steps to thoroughly clean and prepare your pine cones here.
Cut white felt into long strips
Cut a bunch of strips as long as the felt is, about .5″-1.5″ wide. The width isn’t all that important, I cut a bunch of different sizes, I think he looks more mummerific that way.
Put a dab of glue on the felt, and begin to wrap the felt around the pine cone.
Just start wrapping and going in every which way. Up and down, criss-cross, back and forth, etc. When one piece of felt ends, glue it down, and start with another.
When the pine cone is about half wrapped, glue on the googly eyes.
I like to add the eyes in the middle, because I think it gives him that look like he’s peeking out from behind his wraps. The pine cone should be about as wrapped as the above picture when you glue the eyes on.
Continue to wrap the felt, covering just a tad of each eye.
Set your Halloween Pine Cone Mummy out and watch the scares come in (just kidding he’s way too cute!)
This Halloween nature craft is perfect for a cute kids project since it airs on the side of friendly not freaky. It makes a cute Halloween decoration and a it’s a great way to use up those pine cones in your backyard too!
